Burnside is in a lovely location. The view from the big windows amazing over Loch Long. We watched an otter fishing and a seal. The walk down to Dornie Post Office and shop was a pleasure. It's also only a 20 minute walk to Eilean Donan castle, so you can get there before the crowds arrive.
The lodge was very comfortable. Just getting a little 'tired' and needing a few running repairs. The drive down to the back door was a bit rough and tight to negotiate if there are more than two cars.
We were so lucky with the weather. Only one wet day. The lodge is very warm with the underfloor heating and the water is hot. The washing machine and tumble drier were useful.
We had a great meal at Plockton Shores and also took the delightful 13 minute train ride from Klye to Plockton.
The photos and description don’t do these lodges justice , absolutely mind blowing.Right on the loch just down the road from the village pub with magnificent views of the Loch and mountains from most of the rooms.Top spec heated floors great showers, could recommend more highly
The piper played at night on the shores of the Loch magical

We stayed in the Burnside Lodge for 3 nights, using Dornie as a launching point for exploring Skye and the local area. We left wishing we had at least 3 more nights. The house itself is fabulous, with nice rooms and furnishings that are mid-century modern-esque, big windows with great views, and lovely weathered wood outside. The kitchen has plenty of equipment for making good meals. The local shop has good provisions, but for those who want to really cook, the Coop 10 miles away is where to get groceries. When you want to eat out, the local pub is awesome – don’t miss it!
It’s worth spending at least a partial day in Dornie, walking up to the high view point or along the ridge behind the lodges for a longer hike, maybe going kayaking, and getting a coffee at the Schoolhouse Gallery. Ask for suggestions for local walks and towns to visit. They will all be quieter than Skye and lovely.
And of course, there is Skye. Skye is breathtaking in beauty, history, culture, and kindness. It has something for just about everyone (except sun worshippers). Do note, much of Skye is at least a hour’s drive from Dornie, so be ready to spend the day out.
