This place is in a nice location. It takes 10 minutes to get to Ishidangai, which is the famous local staircase with shops and restaurants with a shrine at the top. The food is so so and the hot spring is so so but they have two private baths. One is smaller and costs $20 for 50 minutes but I don't recommend that one. The bigger one has much a bigger changing area with places to sit down and the bath is very big also, it costs $30 for 50 minutes.

I recommend this place for families. They have a free transportation service between Ikaho station and hotel, and also between the hotel and Ishidangai.

Room Tip: Some room have a private hot tub.

The place is not what it is cracked up to be. First thing is that the location is rather poor. There is one attraction in Ikaho Onsen, namely the stone steps, and this ryokan is located at good 10 minutes on foot downhill from it. For fairness, they have a shuttle service and readily take guests where they want to go. The rooms are ok, but nothing special compared to comparable ryokans, same for food. Also the public baths are a bit disappointing. Obviously they paid a good photographer, as reality does not look as good as the photos. In most ryokans, the men's and women's bath get interchanged once per day, so you can experience them both, this is not the case here. Also, they do not draw the water from the famous "golden colored" source, but a secondary clear-colored source. The public baths are on the top floor and have good views. As a plus, there are many hair- and skin care products to try out. On the whole, the place is average and you can have better in this price range.

Room Tip: There are more expensive rooms with their own outside hot spring tub, maybe those are nicer.

The staff were very friendly and helpful even though they were not be able to speak English. It was a good experience and the service is really good.
The room is spacious enough for two. Our room is able to see the Mt. Haruna view. Beautiful!
The onsen bath is really good, with outdoor bath as well. There is a private bath available, which the one that available was a bigger bath.
