Arrived on the doorstep of this hotel late one night after a long day of outlet shopping....little did our family expect to be taken back for a journey in time!

We arrived at about 8 pm and were met at the front desk by an elderly Japanese gentleman, who did not speak one word of English. Fortunately he had some English instructions which had been specifically prepared for us, dealing with the room and dining details, plus use of the onsen in the basement.

Problem was the booking was only made for 2 adults (that was before we decided to bring out 2 children along), and we were met with a lot of head-shaking when we tried to ask whether the dinner (which was included in the booking) could be extended to cover our 2 children (for an extra fee, of course).

We subsequently discovered the reason for all the head-shaking, because the dinner was already pre-prepared. That was our fault, so we ended up sharing our dinner with the kids with extra helpings of rice. The very helpful hostess (who again did not speak a word of English) even gave my children each a cup of instant noodles, which was so touching!

The room was like something I had seen in Japanese movies form the late 70's/early 80's, which had a Japanese styled sitting area and 2 western styled beds. Upon discovering that our 2 children would also be sharing our room, the staff immediately prepared 2 Japanese futons for them, in the sitting area.

We are also charged extra for the 2 children sharing our room, which albeit was very reasonable and included breakfast for them as well.

Despite the language barrier, this was the hotel in the entire trip which the whole family agreed gave us the best feeling of traditional Japanese hospitality, maybe because all of the staff at the hotel were aged 50 or above!

Room Tip: Not much difference, since all the rooms appear to face the same way.
