Very good food; 9 course dinner that was gorgeous with abalone, sashimi, grilled beef, juicy soup etc....very good service, very good onsen,; very good outdoor onsen Swimming pool, good size for both baths, very good ambience, very relaxing, very looking forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: Rooms should all be very good except those close to entrance, staircases and areas with human traffic

We stayed one night in this retreat. On the one hand very modern, on the other hand very traditional. Modern because the facilities are state of the art. Traditional: shoes off, food. One must realise, ad a Westerner, that staying in a ryokan is an experience in itself. There is no hotel bar, no olave to meet others (except in the onsen). One must therefore be prepared to spen time alone or with your travel companion.
All is fine when it comes to thevthe Japanese food. No compromise here, but quite fabulous.
Sitting on tatami's may end up with a sore back.
And, bring cash from Tokyo: ATM's don't accept foreign credit cards.
Tak a bicycle and explore, it's fun!
