“Fodor guide rates this hotel too highly”
Reviewed 6 August 2010

According to the 2010 Fodor guide to Spain, we would be tempted to never stray beyond the hotel property. What would keep us on the premise 24/7?? The original building is a villa dating from the Victorian era. Our room was in this original house. Noisey is the descriptive word! The pipes bang. The air-conditioner roars and the small elevator grinds. Due to high ceilings and hard surface flooring, noise in the hall is amplified. Bring your ear plugs!

As for the spa, it consists of two dressing rooms, two treatment rooms, an exercise faciltity, a small indoor pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna. Theer are only 3 chaises around the pool. Small!

The garden is pleasant, but is not well landscaped. As others have written, the hotel abuts a city park. The lake is a pond and the park is heavily used. While we were there a youth day camp was operating in the park. Serene it was not.

Staff, young Europeans from several different countries, do double duty. The bar tender is also the bell captain and delivers all room service. We had a long wait at the bar while he performed his other duties.

Our rate included breakfast, which was quite good. It is a European breakfast with crusty breads, Spanish sausages & jambon, cheese, croissants, a variety of cereals, fresh squeezed juices and coffee, Spanish style, i.e. espresso.

I was disappointed due to the Fodor hype. The hotel is charming from the outside and the staff works very hard. I expected more from the room and the amenities.

Puigcerda can be toured in half a day. There are few historical sites and the cafe scene is not impressive. The more spectacular mountains are in the distance. We spent 2 days, which was one day too many.

We stayed in Villa Paulita last month for 3 nights. We had a wonderful time visiting the area, the town and the spa within the premises. The breakfasts were wonderful and the views of the "lake?" were charming. The lake turned out to be a small pond, a bit disappointing but still beautiful views. We had a triple room, great beds, large bathroom. All in all a great visit. We did take advantage of the spa area which was quite nice. Weather wasn't wonderful so we never had the opportunity to relax in their wonderful garden.

We stayed for 3 nights in Feb, for a B & B deal, everything was excellent - the rooms, food, staff, location, we will go back and would recommend this to anyone who likes a quiet, civilised and sohpisticated hotel. It was a good location from which to go to ski resorts. The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to assist. One thing we had not thought of was that you pay to park underground there. We had dinner in the restaurant one night and it was excellent, even though it seemed expensive because of the euro, it was worth it because of the service and food.

We just returned from a two weeks leisure road trip in the Basque country and the Pyrenees. During these two weeks we stayed in six different hotels.

We spent two nights at Hospes Villa Paulita which is situated on a lake and has an exquisite view of the surrounding mountains. The room was elegantly furnished, very quiet, exceptionally clean and the bathroom was impeccable.

The reception staff was very helpful to suggest various excursions around the area and provide us with maps.

The spa was excellent, with sauna, Turkish hamam, Jacuzzi and a swimming pool. The hotel provides you with all the necessary for the spa and it is indeed a wonderful experience.

The breakfast is brilliant and is served in a different building ten steps from the actual hotel building with a magnificent view of the lake. A selection of local chesses, jamon, fresh juices, freshly baked breads, croissants and pastries, a wide range of fresh fruits, cereals and an extraordinary collection of teas.

It was a wonderful experience staying at Villa Paulita and I highly recommend it!

We sadly only had one night in this beautiful hotel and were notable to use the spa facilities but they looked magnificent. It is situated on a lake. It is very quiet but you can walk into a small but busy town within five minutes. The rooms were superb and lacked for nothing. Breakfast was very substantial with masses of choice. The restaurant is also superbly positioned overlooking the lake. Garage parking is provided.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Once a family-owned summer residence, Hospes Villa Paulita has been transformed into a relaxing getaway located in the heart of Puigcerdà, on the shores of its emblematic lake and surrounded by the Schierbeck Park. The hotel combines nature with nurture in three elegant buildings of 38 rooms: An original 19Th century villa complete with French neo-classical elements and two newly built annexes. The effect is an artful composition of historic and contemporary design, a creative reflection of imagination, and an authentic look to the city of Puigcerdà. The best cuisine in Cerdanya can be enjoyed at the Senzone L’Estany, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant with the best views to the lake; which offers a variety of local dishes, a balanced cuisine between sophistication and tradition. And don’t forget the Bodyna Spa, an experience of pure revitalization for body and mind. ... more   less
