“Amazing week in paradise!”

Our experience at Culloden Cove was outstanding. The villa and landscape were breathtaking, the food was amazing, and the staff were incredible. We will definitely be going back.

We were part of a large group of friends who visited Culloden Cove - our group consisted of 3 couples and 4 kids (aged 4, 3, 1 and 1).

The villa itself is located about a 10 minute cab ride away from downtown Whitehouse - it is quite secluded. There is about 50 feet of a white sand private beach, a beautiful dock and water that stays chest high on an adult for at least 40 feet out. The water is also very warm and great for swimming since it's very calm even at high tide. You might want to bring goggles (to go explore the reef right off the dock) and water shoes (to walk through some of the reefy areas).

At the top of the steps down to the ocean is the infinity pool, which we'd go into for either a change of pace or to cool down. Off the pool is a cabana area with some couches, a hammock and a few chairs. It was a great place to read or sit in the shade and enjoy the ocean.

We ate all our meals and did most of our lounging on the large, covered patio. There are couches, a couple of hanging chairs (which if you ask the toddlers were the best part of the trip) and a huge table that fit all 10 of us comfortably. You're surrounded by lush vegetation, hummingbirds and geckos. It's a great place to hang out and for the adults you'll be spending a lot of time there drinking wine, rum or red stripes. Side note: apparently the only beer you can find in Jamaica is Red Stripe or Heineken. Beer is cheap, but wine is relatively expensive compared to Canadian and especially American pricing.

The house is nice but honestly, you're not spending a lot of time in there other than to sleep. They have a large flat screen TV with satellite, which we turned on approximately once for a football game. The kitchen is nothing special, but you'll be amazed at what Dion, Gail and Lilly are able to prepare in there with seemingly basic facilities. There was a large picnic table in the living room which the kids spent a lot of time at drawing and playing.

The bedrooms upstairs are well appointed, and the AC works well. You'll have no problem sleeping at night or a quick daytime nap. There is a separate 2br/1br cottage which was great for the family of 4 staying with us, basically the only downside to that spot was that it wasn't in range of the wi-fi.

A couple of other miscellaneous points:
- There are lots of fruit trees on the property, and we were eating fresh starfruit right off the trees all week as it was in season. Pretty cool.
- The ladies will offer to take you into town to the market when they do the shopping. This is a good decision.
- The ladies are awesome. It's worth saying again.
- If you have small children it's totally worth spending a few extra dollars getting the nannies to help you out. It let the parents relax and enjoy themselves.
- For anyone worried about safety, one of the nice things about the isolation of Culloden Cove is that you're pretty far away from any tourist joints. We never felt concerned about security not only because there was an overnight guard keeping watch around the property, but also because we were so far away from typical tourist attractions.
- The grounds are meticulously maintained every day by Vincent, who has a heck of a life story. Ask him to tell you about it.
- Relax, the internet connection can be spotty but you're in paradise and can live without netflix for a few days.
- The only negative was the transport to/from the airport. Due to our large party we special booked a bus for 6 adults and 4 small children We flew into Montego Bay, and nervously waited outside the airport for about 30 minutes for our arranged bus to arrive. The drive took about 1.5 hours and took us across the island through very narrow and bumpy roads. There was no seat belts on some of the seats, and the car seats provided were very old and didn't exactly inspire confidence. Our driver was extremely polite and took the time to point out some sites along the way, but for those of you used to North American roads may find this a little nerve racking.

Andy and his staff were wonderful and the perfect place to go with kids - 2yr and 8 months. We couldn't have asked for an easier vacation - which made it that much more enjoyable. So nice that everything is just taken care of for you.

Our family of 10 enjoyed our week at Culloden Cove very much. Our kids loved playing in the pool by the ocean, and the the kayaks were used daily to paddle to the reef to snorkel. The small beach has sandy entry and is great for swimming. The villa was comfortable and staff were all very friendly. Minor issues were dealt with pleasantly and immediately by the staff and the owner. Andrew, the owner, was terrific to deal with and answered all inquiries and provided lots of information and recommendations. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Andrew again.

“Perfect Family Hideaway”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

This family vacation was long overdue, as the stresses of the world tend to overwhelm us; it was time to step away from it all, unplug and take the time to look at each other in the face when we speak. Our vacation was all encompassing, celebrating my wife's birthday in Feb, our 5th wedding anniversary in March, me and my son's 5th birthday in April and our daughter's upcoming 2nd birthday in May. Lots to be happy and celebrate so it was time to celebrate together. We also brought along our very own "babysitters," my brother and my wife's sister.
Planning: After reviewing and making inquiries to several locations through flipkey and a couple of other sites, we were able to narrow our search down to a couple of villas. Culloden Cove to put it simply provided the space, privacy and close proximity to various amenities that we simply couldn't pass over. Working with Andrew, helped to put my mind at ease. I'm a bit of a night owl so most of my emails were sent in the middle of the night which the first time truly caught me off guard cause he responded almost immediately. Through various correspondence we confirmed our menu selections, as our son has food allergies; transfer from the airport (roughly an hour) and estimated pricing for food, drinks, tipping, etc. The Culloden Cove welcome package left no detail and/or stone unturned couple that with the great feedback and extra care taken up front with Andrew it made my planning too easy.
Hospitality: We were greated by Gail and Dion who are two of the most magnificent people on the planet. They did everything under the sun to make our stay a pleasant one. The love they showed our family through the course of the trip was simply unimagenable, our kids couldn't get enough of them (and it was vice versa). Without my knowledge the ladies of the house planned a belated birthday celebration for me, chocolate cake and all. For our anniversary they created a private candlelit dinner under the gazebo overlooking the water AND made a separate dinner for the rest of the family to enjoy back at the main house. I could go on all day regarding the level of service the entire crew provided us; Mervin the security guard even after his long night shift went home and made some calls to try and find us some jet ski's to rent locally. Again over and beyond!
Food: My wife would kill me if I didn't mention how amazing the food was. From the fresh squeezed orange juice, to the wide array of homestyle dishes (lobster tails a plenty) the food was amazing. Dion never told us, but she made some type of salad dressing that had everyone lifting their plates to drink up after the salad was gone!
Villa/excursion: Between the hospitality, food and pure relaxation there wasn't much need for us to venture outside of the villa. We swam everyday all day (i have the sunburns on my shoulders to prove it). One of the items that sold us was the private beach, it was the perfect size for a family of 6. Watching the crabs on the rocks, writing in the sand, shell hunting...sitting on the end of the dock or at the edge of the pool at sunset only heightened the experience. There was plenty of yard so the kids could run around, only thing we missed was our soccerball...but we made due with a coconut that fell from one of the trees. We did venture out to YS Falls one day, which was perfect. We left the villa in the morning, and arrived at the falls after a short cab ride. I'll point out that we made sure to get the contact information from the driver that picked us up from the airport. His price was extremely fair ($80 US for 4 adults and 2 children roundtrip), it worked out well because he also had a carseat for our 2 year old. For those that have read this far into the review, are savvy enough to look up YS Falls...my has been to Dunn's River Falls before and she thought this falls was a much better experience. A huge must do is taking the canopy tour (zipline); I was unable to go with the first group to stay with the kids, but the guides took my camera and took some of the best shots of our entire trip! The guides truly made the tour a lot of fun and joyful experience.
Cons (because I'm honest): At almost every lunch and dinner, we were greated by some neighboring cats that would get a little close for comfort while we were enjoying our meals. A few polite shooing and they kept their distance, it was pretty clear that previous guests had fed them at some point for them to return. Small in comparison to the hour or so spent enjoying our meals. The other item was the water pressure during showers; at some points the pressure completely went out but would come back and everything would be fine. I did mention this to Andrew and it was found that there was a utility issue that's currently being corrected.
Overall: We wished we were able to stay longer and we would definately plan on coming back to Culloden Cove. I want to say thanks to Andrew and all of the staff, you truly gave us a wonderful family holiday!
