“ATV Outfitters a Must-do!”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

This is our third trip in 10 years to ATV Outiftters. The ATV ride is a great way to see the north side of the Big Island - you are on private land seeing things visitors do not get to see without going on this trip. We've done the shorter 15 mile waterfall tour once and the deluxe 22 mile waterfall & rainforest adventure twice. Two of the trips were with our children who loved it. The waterfall tour takes you up into the hillside past macadamia trees, guava bushes, spectacular views of several waterfalls and the ocean in the distance - and occasionally a lone cow! The 22 mile tour does the waterfall tour plus adds in a trip down to the oceanside where the only people you might see are a few local surfers in the waves. Beautiful scenery, stops at great places for pictures & the tour guides are great - they are pleasant, professional and safety-minded, share knowledge of the area & point out plants (guava, wild ginger), and throw in a few jokes to keep you laughing. Any ablility can do this - I had never driven an ATV until my first time on this tour. They also have ride-alongs for kids under 16 and a vehicle for those who don't want to be on an ATV. They provide drinks & granola bars at one of the stops. It's a really great trip & something most wouldn't think of doing but it's well worth the trip. Requires long pants & closed-toe shoes. Wear a light jacket or sweatshirt if you are on the morning tour. Savings Hint: Book ahead of time online through Hawaii Discounts & save ~$25 per person.

“A Must Do!”
Reviewed 28 December 2011

So far this has been the highlight of our big island trip. We did the 3 hour ride and it was a blast. We did the 2 person side by side buggy. It's a nice option for couples or parents with kids. Most places only offer single quads. It was such a fun day cruising through the trails and seeing all the vistas. Great staff too. The guides are really nice local guys that are there to help you have fun!

“We had a great time”
Reviewed 28 December 2011

Rather than repeat other's points I'll keep it short. We had fun; the trip was worth it. Darryl and Fado (sp?) were fun, safe, and knowledgeable guides.

Some of these reviews note that they make you stick to the trails and not go fast. Eh, sort of; depends on what you think fast is. I was half expecting boring trunk-to-tail but it was not like that. The top speeds are between 15-25mph with decent spacing in between. There were times it was a little tough to keep up, but there's really no rush. And after seeing the terrain, you'll want to stay on the trail anyway. It's fun, you'll be safe, it's plenty fast, and you'll be fine.

Let's get real... I'm sure you've been around enough a-holz who ruin it for everyone to know that if ATV Outfitters gave folks free rein, they'd way too often end up with broken machines, broken bodies, and a never ending series of personal injury lawsuits.

If you've never ridden one of these before, they let you practice a bit before you go out the gate. My fiance wasn't quite comfortable with it so she rode in one of those rangers. Actually, it worked out cuz she was free to take a lot of video. Others in the group gave us their email addresses and we sent it all to them.

Look, just go, it's fun. There are waterfalls, nice backcountry, and a nice change of pace if you're spending most of your trip in and on the water.

“Well worth it!”

Fun trip through the ditches. Guides were excellent; no matter what random question we asked Bernelle, she knew the answer. This is something totally different!

“Delightful float along tropical irrigation ditch -- more fun place than it sounds”
Reviewed 24 November 2011

Hula provided a fun and informative running commentary as well as guidance about how to negotiate the float during the two hours or so that we had in the historic irrigation canal thru beautiful tropical jungle. I thought the adventure would be fun, and I wasn't disappointed. Courteous treatment with full explanation as we went along so we understood the significance of the place and the experience.
