“Delightful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2012 via mobile

Spent a lovely day here for lunch. As we were a large party we were put in a private dining room and looked after very well. Excellent meal and exceptional value for money. Delightful grounds and comfortable public rooms. Really felt welcome and will certainly go there again. The view over Bassenthwaite Lake was divine and there is a lovely terrace. Looked like the afternoon tea was popular so perhaps something for next time.

I went with two friends to armathwaite hall for afternoon tea and spa treatments.
When we got there THEY had mixed up the times for our treatments leaving us to wait for over an hour....with no apology for their mistake. They totally made it seem like my fault....and very unfriendly or accommodating.
This made us later for afternoon tea, which I was told was fine there'd be no problem. However, when we turned up there was no table available for us as they thought we weren't coming. Evidently reception opted not to tell other staff members where we were. Therefore we were ushered into the bar to have our afternoon tea at a make shift table with no views in a dark bar room. We were utterly disgusted and once again there was no apology. This totally spoilt our treat and definitely wouldn't go back for a 'relaxing' day. I was left feeling utterly stressed out. Disgusting customer service!

We have just spent 4 nights at Armathwaite Hall. Suite was attractive and comfortable (although shower needs upgrading) and food was excellent. Views are lovely. Peaceful atmosphere - would be even nicer without background music. Service is willing and obliging but inconsistent and very impersonal. Our suite was left without toilet rolls and with an empty tissue holder which we should have preferred to endless hot tub and spa suggestions and a celebration cake left with Reception by our family as a surprise for us was overlooked. Main issue - despite teeming rain, howling wind and chilly temperatures there was no sign of a fire at ant time, despite being assured at time of booking that the hotel had a real fire. We live in a house in the country, and we stay in country houses, but this is definitely not a country house hotel. Fires would add real comfort and heart and redress balance between impersonal corporate and country house atmosphere.

My husband and I have just returned from a two night stay at Armathwaite Hall hotel which we found to be fabulous value for money. The facilities (especially the leisure facilities) were outstanding and all the staff were extremely professional whilst being naturally friendly, approachable and personable. Our bedroom was well equipped and beautifully furnished (Garden Room) and the standard of food in both the bistro and the restaurant was excellent. Definitely recommend for romantic trips away and we cannot wait to return...

We stayed for 3 nights, dinner bed and breakfast to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. On arrival (early) we were warmly welcomed and our bags taken care of so we could enjoy the day.
We used the spa facilities which were immaculate and added to the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel.
We also went clay pigeon shooting which was great fun.
Our room (standard) was luxurious and again immaculate. Our bed was turned down each night.
To the food and service. All staff were attentative whilst not intrusive. Dinner each night was fantastic. We had thought we may use the voucher system to eat in Keswick one night but dinner at Armathwaite was too good to miss.
Breakfast was the only slight disappointment in that it was a buffet style breakfast which was plentiful in choice but quality not what we might have expected especially considering the high standard of everything else.
All in all though an excellent hotel which I would recommend to anyone after a touch of luxury in the lakes.
