Spring break for 4 good friends at the Rio Mar Beach Resort was great. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful with all our request. The property is beautiful..... beach view and mountain view all at the same place. Food at the main restaurants was outstanding. Lobby bar was fun with a special drink daily and good bar food. Liked the quiet and peaceful adult pool. I would definitely recommend this for a vacation destination.

Room Tip: Ocean view on third floor or higher.

The resort property is gigantic and beautiful. The landscaping is well kept and the beach and pool area is lovely. The interior is absolutely average. And the service is horrendous! How horrendous? Let me count the ways...
Our room was dirty upon check in. Puddles of water on the bedroom floor. Chunks of dirt on the bathroom floor.
Reservations are required at the overpriced, mediocre hotel restaurants. I called and was transferred several times before someone told me there was no availability until 8PM. I called back and was told there was an opening at 6:30PM. When we got there at 6:30PM, the place was empty.
My companion called to reserve an airport transfer and was put on hold for 30+ minutes only to be told she had to go to the front desk to make a reservation.
We got to be friends with the hotel maintenance man. He was in our room fixing something almost every night whether it was the safe, key cards that frequently demagnetize, broken lights, etc. He was prompt to fix things, but we shouldn't have had to call him at all.
The number of towels in the room constantly varied. It's like they took the dirty ones and never replaced them with clean ones.
The sheets weren't changed during our entire stay even thought we requested a change.
Service at the Tiki Bar was awful, as well. Expect to wait half an hour just to order food and even longer to get your food.

Having your own car is a must if you do stay here. I'm so glad we did because this allowed us to book our own day trips- which saved us more than half of what the hotel was charging for the same trip. The property is huge and there is nowhere to walk to form there. Otherwise, you're stuck eating overpriced, bland food during your stay. There is no mimi fridge in the room. That's an extra charge, of course. And, there is NO nightlife at the hotel. The Tiki Bar closes at ngiht, which is insane in my opinion, and the lobby bar is deserted. The casino is tiny and uninspiring. Consider staying elsewhere.

Room Tip: View from a high floor of the rainforest is quite lovely.

A grand venue for a relaxing week over spring break. The large well-manicured complex is quite contemporary and chic, has sufficient attentive staff at the key points one needs staff present, and is a near perfect place to spend time exploring the island or just relaxing on the room’s balconies or at the lush pool. Among all this praise and compliment, there are some cautionary notes; the guest underground parking lot is frequently full and alternative parking is truly bothersome and problematic, prices at all the cafes and restaurants on site are exorbitant, coffee is available in the AM only at an oversubscribed kiosk and again ridiculously expensive. We anticipated pretty much what we found and while our time at the rio mar was enjoyable, should we go back to PR I doubt we’d return to the Rio Mar.

Room Tip: TIP: A rental car here is vital if you wish to leave the complex.

This was an amazing steal of a vacation, quite frankly the best part of my vacation was had at this hotel! First, my friend did some research and learned that the hotel was a little farther out than most. This prompted us to rent a car which was one of the best decisions of the trip. Renting a car allowed us to frequent the local grocery store and stock up on breakfast items and other amenities that were needed on the trip. The hotel food is overpriced and just not that great so this was a big savings to us! The rooms were average but clean! we asked for the Rainforrest view which was spectacular. it's also important to ask for a room on the higher level floors facing the ocean or Rainforrest for the best views otherwise you could be stuck looking at a parking lot! The resort itself was beautiful, you can definitely tell there is alot of pride in the hotel. The resort pools were nice but by far the best thing about this hotel is the vicinity to the public beach! The water was blue and the beach was clean. The resort also provides chairs and umbrellas which was wonderful, although the service to have those items brought to you is slow. There was only one man responsible to bring you both the chairs and the umbrellas which can be a daunting task when you have 25 people waiting. I liked that this hotel had great resturant recommendations the best of all which was la hacienda aka the best resturant in puerto rico! The Gocart skirt steak and the mofongo were amazing!! We also tried the food stalls which while the area is cool to walk down provided little in the way of variety serving mostly deep fried foods. The service was also slow and non existent. Although we did not end up eating at the food stall recommended by the hotel! This hotel is also close to attractions such as El Yunque, and vieques and biobay. I really enjoyed this hotel and if you take a few step to prepare you will too!

Traveled on business to the Wyndham Rio Mar resort in March of 2012. Walking into the lobby there is a beautiful view of the ocean. Check-in was fast and efficient. Over slept the first night, late for a meeting, rushed into the shower, no soap!! After doing the best I could with shampoo and leaving for the day, I returned after the room was made up and no soap. I called guest services and they quickly brought me soap but the maid service never did for the remaining 3 days I was there. Strange. Anyway, the food at the main restaurants was top notch although a little expensive. Food at the Tiki bar and lobby bar was below par. Beer is $7.50 for a bottle but mixed drinks were more resonable. There was no drink service at the pool and the service at the beach was spotty at best. If you go here, be prepared to go to the bar every time you want a drink. Not likely I will return as there are many choices throughout the Carribbean and Mexico that I enjoyed more. Plus, it takes about 45 minutes from the airport to arrive at the resort.
