After a five-year absence from the island, my wife, two boys (ages 13 and 8) and I stayed three nights at Dos Aguas, and we’re so glad we did. Our only regret is that we should have booked a longer stay!

Where to begin? Location: it’s just an easy 30-minute drive East from San Juan along Route 66 and within minutes from El Yunque rainforest, local restaurants and Luquillo beach. The setting: the contemporary, concrete and galvanized steel structure contrasts with the luscious greenery around it. The B&B is nestled between a decades-old bamboo forest and the delta of two rivers - Río Grande and Espíritu Santo (therefore the name, Dos Aguas = Two Waters). The décor is modern, yet cozy and conveys the carefree spirit of its beautiful owner, Carla Arraiza. Artwork from local, contemporary artists and cozy furniture are peppered throughout. Accommodations: four unique and beautifully decorated rooms (think crisp white linens; industrial-meets Caribbean, laid-back chic) are available. We were lucky to have the suite with views of the bamboo forest, which was more than spacious for a family of four. Waking up to the sound of raindrops and the soothing clatter of the bamboos: priceless. Food & Dining: If we could dine at Dos Aguas’ covered porch every day for the rest of our lives, we probably would! The setting is gorgeous, the home-cooked meals are delicious and Carla and her partner Iván are a delight to spend time with (we suggest you choose to have dinner with the hosts). Make sure to call dibs on the hammocks - conveniently located just an arm’s length away from the dinner table - to sleep off the asopao and tostones! BTW, the bamboo forest provides just enough shade to make the temperature just right for outdoor dining. If you decide to venture out for dinner one of the evenings, Don Pepe is a sure bet. For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with any of the selections offered. Dos Aguas’ fresh brewed coffee is to die for. Recreation: Feeling active? Grab one of the kayaks and paddleboards available and hit the rivers. You can make it as active or as mellow as you’d like. With the kids, we just kayaked for 25 minutes or so. If we had been alone, we would have done the full 40-minute trip up the river, which takes you to a white, sandy beach in the Atlantic Ocean. The property is great for short morning and afternoon walks and there are great spots to set up your yoga mat and meditate, comfy lounges to sit back and read or sip a glass of champagne. Close to Dos Aguas is La Paseadora (a boat that takes groups on guided tours of the river), Hacienda Carabalí for horseback riding, and of course, El Yunque. The guests that came and went: families with kids (check), girlfriends having a yoga getaway weekend (check), couples on a romantic escapade (check), business people de-stressing (check). The atmosphere is what you make off it. You can decide to interact with other guests at the property, fly solo or do a bit of both. You have plenty of space to do as you please. Whatever your trip, Dos Aguas will make sure to please. Iván & Carla: “We’ll be back! Hasta pronto amigos!”

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of PR trip.... and were so glad that we did! This place is in a surprising location, unbelievably convenient to San Juan and right by the highway. When you enter the gates, you are transported to a different time and place. The grounds are by the two rivers, in a bamboo forest. The house is modern and artful, beautiful and comfortable. The rooms are deliciously cool with excellent ac, comfortable beds and unique furnishings and artwork.

So yes, this is a lovely, tranquil and beautiful spot...but the people make it amazing. Our experience of this incredible place was created by incredible people. Carla and Ivan are warm, friendly, and gracious. Ana was a rock star, making us feel welcome, tending bar, serving as barista and keeping things running smoothly. The private yoga sessions with Sofia were a big highlight, practicing on the terrace. Having a 'family dinner' on our last night was such a pleasure. Not only was Carla's cooking delicious, but it felt like a dinner party with friends.

We can't wait to go back.

Looking for a retreat, fully in contact with nature, but close to everything, including places such as el Yunque? This is the place. The main building's minimalist architecture, plus its balconies, terraces and trails full of bamboos and vegetation are the perfect setting for a getaway, both for couples and families.
The owners and staff make you feel at home, and the food is delicious. The rooms are spacious, minimalist and cozy.
They also have kayaks and paddle-boards for rent for those seeking an adventure. Will definitely be coming back.

Oasis--a fertile spot in the desert ((or city)) where water is found. Where there is water there Is also life. This place is full of green life--mature trees, bamboos and low vegetation, all placed and chosen by nature itself. Dos Aguas building merges with nature in a harmonious way, bringing it inside. I loved the building character--its discreet presence among nature, its unpretentious design, the honest expression of its construction material - concrete. The beautiful high ceiling rooms with glass windows close to the trees, allowed branches to enter the room!! The hostess made me feel welcomed and at home. Had a peaceful workout kayaking the river to reach a beautiful beach. The food was delicious. This is a Beautiful, peaceful and tranquil space. Thank you Karla!!!

I spent an amazing weekend at Dos Aguas, a lovely property hidden between rivers and under trees. The house is impeccably renovated and decorated, each room with a distinct personality and ample windows. The spacious suite is well worth the price, boasting beautiful views of nature and shaded by bamboos. An obvious highlight of the experience were our gracious hosts - Carla and Iván - who spared no expense to make us feel welcome and at home. I recommend Dos Aguas wholeheartedly to everyone and know that this the first of many visits. Do yourself a favor and replenish your soul at Dos Aguas.
