“Superb accommodation in a beautiful location”
Reviewed 17 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

La Pieve exceeded our expectations on every count. Peter and Richard were excellent hosts - on hand for advice and recommendations but never intrusive. The chapel is attractively furnished, very well equipped and very comfortable. The garden was a delight - as were the ripe figs, grapes and the pot of basil at the kitchen door. We passed an extremely pleasant 10 days visiting local towns, swimming in the river (and the sea), exploring the mountains and relaxing with our books. the small, medieval cities of Urbino and Gubbio - which prompted our visit to Le Marche - did not disappoint - and without the crowds of the Tuscan cities. Calgi is a real gem - especially the market, the main square, the churches and the ice cream. The time raced by - and we feel we have left plenty of a return visit in the future. Thank you Peter and Richard - our stay in your lovely chapel was an absolute tonic.

“Perfect getaway”
Reviewed 9 July 2017 for a stay in June 2017

My husband and I spent a perfectly idyllic week in Le Marche and staying at La Pieve was a big part of what made it so special. The apartment is lovely with a large living room, dining area and well stocked kitchen plus a comfy and cozy bedroom. Spectacular views of rolling hills and a charming herb garden await you on the patio. Loved the abundance of lavender and tarragon whose lovely scent drifts into the bedroom.
Peter and Richard are the perfect hosts. Charming and helpful, they anticipate every need you may have and their knowledge of the area made it easier to choose places to visit in exquisite Le Marche. Books on the region and a list of restaurants and amenities in the area are left in the apartment for you to browse.
We visited several of the restaurants and towns included in the list and we loved them all.
Le Marche is an incredibly beautiful area, rich in history with an abundance of towns and villages perched on the gorgeous hills. Charming Cagli is a short distance away from La Pieve and has lots of shops and restaurants.
All in all our week in Le Marche and La Pieve was truly the stuff of dreams!

“A wonderful, peaceful place to escape to”
Reviewed 5 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We spent just a week here - nowhere near long enough to do justice to this amazing region. The house is located in beautiful rolling countryside with splendid views from the terrace. It is cool even in very hot weather and well equipped for self-catering.

Peter and Richard have lived here for many years and have a truly encyclopaedic knowledge of Le Marche, witness the beautiful 'Gateway to Central Italy' guide available in the property along with copious amounts of other practical local information. Their hospitality was impeccable - friendly and always willing to help but unobtrusive.

We drove to La Pieve from the UK, making a holiday of the outward and return journeys. Cagli, the closest town, is perhaps ten minutes drive away and good for all kinds of shopping, again with really good advice from Peter. Urbino and Gubbio are within easy reach along with many, many other gems. To pick just one example, don't miss out on the astonishing gilded bronze Roman statues in Pergola.

We did so much in one short week but there is so much more to see. We'll be back!

“Still the Best of the Best”
Reviewed 10 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Another idyllic week in this delightful and characterful cottage, looking out over vineyards and hills, visiting umpteen beautiful/fascinating churches/piazzas/palaces/forts in the neighborhood, enjoying wonderful food/wine at wonderful (i.e. cheap) prices, and in the gracious (but never intrusive) care of the charming Peter and Richard. Plus, no pool or telly so yay, no loud kids. It doesn't get any better than this!

“First--but definitely not our last--visit to Le Marche”
Reviewed 2 January 2016 for a stay in September 2015

Although my husband and I have been traveling to Italy for 25 years, this was our first visit to Le Marche. La Pieve is beautifully restored, spacious and comfortable, in a lovely rural setting. The kitchen is very well-stocked, and we prepared dinner there each night after various day trips to Urbino, the Frasassi caves, and Jesi. Even Ascoli Piceno is within comfortable driving distance. When we had a rainy day, though, we were perfectly content to spend a day curled up on the comfy twin sofas with a book (and good light for reading, which you don't often find in vacation rentals). On sunny days, we loved sitting on the terrace and enjoying the superb views.

Peter and Richard are excellent hosts, full of information and suggestions, and their cat, Fred, is a real charmer. Peter's guidebook, which we read before our trip, was most helpful. One week wasn't nearly enough to explore this lovely region, so we are definitely planning a return trip to La Pieve. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.
