I have flown this airline twice: once from LAX to Paris with a stop in Helsinki, and two days ago from Rome to Tallinn, again with a stop in Helsinki. BOTH TIMES they failed to load my bag. Both times the original flights were delayed, and both times even the original stopover time was far too short (less than 40 minutes).
On the Paris leg, I'd packed for clothes for a month's worth of travel. I was to be in Paris for three days, before moving to a remote chateau for a writers' retreat where I was working and where there would be nothing to buy to wear. I feel like Finnair stole my time in Paris from me, as I spent my three precious days there worrying about my bag, scrambling to shop for what I could find (not knowing if or when my bag would show up, and waiting around my Air BnB for a courier who also didn't show up when originally scheduled. I bought 7 pieces at H&M (hardly designer) for 194 euros, so at least I'd have something to wear for the next 2 1/2 weeks.
When my bag showed up three days later, just as I was to leave Paris, I filed a claim for what I'd gone out of pocket. The claim form indicated that I would be entitled to what I'd spent, but could receive 50% more if I opted for a Finnair gift card. Having no interest in that, I stated I wanted the money I'd had no choice but to spend because of Finnair's screw up. I submitted the form and got an instant email response (no human ever looked at my claim) which said they'd be reimbursing me 80 euros(?!?) And to whom does one complain about this? Not Finnair, that's for sure, as they make it effectively impossible to reach a human, and are both your adversary and judge and jury.
And that was just the first time they failed to deliver my luggage. They then repeated the same horrible (lack of) customer service three weeks later when I made the mistake of flying them again from Rome to Tallinn, and they again didn't load my bag. Seriously. At least this time it was delivered in a day (not 3).
They have now twice wasted my time, money and caused me endless aggravation and disruption to my trip(s). On top of all that, (and this is the least of their problems by comparison, but just for the record), the food is mediocre even in Business class, and in Economy they don't even offer complimentary soft drinks. You get water or "blueberry drink." I mean, come on...
It's clear that this airline skimps on everything: food, service, time, customer care and compensation. I've unfortunately got one more flight booked with them home to LA, and am taking bets on whether they'll make it a hat trick and lose my bag a third time. But after that, I swear, never again.
