“Cancelled flights without replacements”
Review of Finnair

Reviewed 31 March 2020

Spoke to 4 customer service departments, spoke to staff at airport and no one was able to help. They cancelled our return flight and didn't provide us with an alternative or a refund despite them having 2 flights in 2 days that were the exact same journey with spare seats. Haven't received any help or refund. Would hate for this to happen to someone else.

We had 2 short flights, within Finland, with Finnair and they were both very pleasant. Our 2nd flight was cancelled due to weather but they rebooked us on a flight leaving a couple of hours later. They board the plane section by section and were very strict about that, so boarding was hassle free even on the second completely booked flight. Due to weather issues at our destination, we spent some time on the plane unable to leave, but the captain kept us updated on the delays regularly and the flight attendants offered water. All in all it was a good experience with Finnair.
If you can get an exit row, it is worth the extra cost for the extra legroom.

I previously had a good experience with Finnair when I flew to South Korea. This time, the outward flight to Bangkok via Helsinki was pretty good. The first leg from Manchester to Helsinki was on a small Embraer with two rows of two and the longer second leg used a bigger A350. Both flights were punctual and the planes modern. No food was provided on the first flight, just coffee and juice. On the second, only meagre portions were offered. Any alcohol had to be paid for at high Finnish prices (about £5 for a small can of beer). The entertainment was so poor I had to read my book. The nightmare began with the return journey. Three days before my departure, I was informed by email that my Helsinki to Manchester flight had been cancelled. It was a no-reply email and it proved impossible to contact Finnair (their customer service was always busy). They did not offer to help me in Helsinki with hotel vouchers or by re-routing me. I had expected them to be caring and reliable but they seemed indifferent to getting me home. I was left with a choice of being stranded in Bangkok (with my visa running out and Thailand going on lockdown) or in Helsinki (expensive hotels, no flights out). I therefore had to spend a fortune booking a single ticket leapfrogging Europe with Qatar and just managed to get back home with absolutely no help from Finnair. My advice: don't trust this airline.

Had to book this flight as my original 19:30pm Thursday flight was cancelled by e-mail at 23:55pm on the previous Tuesday night. Because this e-mail was sent whilst I was sleeping I didn't realise it had been cancelled - also the mobile app was inviting me to check in at 8:00am next Wednesday morning - so I was under the false impression that the flight was still on until I read the e-mail - all very confusing and misleading. The cancellation e-mail gave me a number to call (+358 10 80 40 60) - which didn't connect me to anything (tried 4 times) - what was the point? Clearly there was going to be no help from Finnair - but I quickly found this flight available from their website and booked it at a cost of €257 which was more than the return flight that got cancelled! Plus a night in the Hilton at the airport for €231 (as the flight was 12 hours later than my original). The plane turned out to be only 20% full but they still sat passengers together (what about coronavirus?) and no-one was offered one of the empty business class seats. All we were offered on the flight was a bottle of water and a chocolate bar whilst 3 hours on the plane. No sign of a refund for the cancelled flight 10 days ago. I guess if this airline goes out of business because of Coronavirus, then their will be little sympathy from me - as instead of stepping up to mark to help their passengers in this crisis they appear to have done the opposite.

Because of Covid 19 and that Turkish Airlines cancelled our tickets without any information and payback, we, my wife and I, had to get tickets home to Sweden another way. Not possible as a Swede go via Copenhagen so what was left was to go with Finnair via Helsinki to Gothenburg and then with car to Helsingborg.
The airplane was nice. It was a A350 - 900. Almost new. We got good places with much legroom whitout paying any extra. Left BKK in time and was in Helsinki in time for our transit. BUT ... the food, I don`t know if I would give it to my dog! That bad it was. I also didn`t like the serving from the hostesses. You got everything at the same time (food, drink and coffe/the) at the same time. Everything should be on the same tray.
If the food had been alright I would have given Finnair a "five" in overall ratings.
