I previously had a good experience with Finnair when I flew to South Korea. This time, the outward flight to Bangkok via Helsinki was pretty good. The first leg from Manchester to Helsinki was on a small Embraer with two rows of two and the longer second leg used a bigger A350. Both flights were punctual and the planes modern. No food was provided on the first flight, just coffee and juice. On the second, only meagre portions were offered. Any alcohol had to be paid for at high Finnish prices (about £5 for a small can of beer). The entertainment was so poor I had to read my book. The nightmare began with the return journey. Three days before my departure, I was informed by email that my Helsinki to Manchester flight had been cancelled. It was a no-reply email and it proved impossible to contact Finnair (their customer service was always busy). They did not offer to help me in Helsinki with hotel vouchers or by re-routing me. I had expected them to be caring and reliable but they seemed indifferent to getting me home. I was left with a choice of being stranded in Bangkok (with my visa running out and Thailand going on lockdown) or in Helsinki (expensive hotels, no flights out). I therefore had to spend a fortune booking a single ticket leapfrogging Europe with Qatar and just managed to get back home with absolutely no help from Finnair. My advice: don't trust this airline.
