“Because Delta gets you there”
Review of Delta Air Lines

Reviewed 11 December 2017

Delta always comes through, even when there is a delay - they make announcements in a timely manner, and they follow up to make sure everything is OK.

My flights were uneventful going to my destination, but there was a delay for the return flights. It seems that leaving NY is more difficult than arriving...

However, Delta made sure we were all informed, and they even supplied snacks and water for everyone! That is service!

Many years ago a young boy built model aircraft in his bedroom. The best ever was one fashioned from two cigar tubes joined end to end that his father let him have and a piece of balsa wood glued to the cigar tubes as wings. Launched from his upstairs bedroom window with the power of an elastic band, it flew right across the yard.

Unfortunately, many years later the young boy, now an aircraft designer, created the Bombardier plane used on the Ft. Myers NYC route. Like his childhood model, it is tiny. The overhead lockers are built for taking a hat and a coat, but the amount of carry on luggage that most folks bring on board nowadays means that about 50% of baggage will be stored in the hold. Plus of course, most of these folks will be on the large size and have no peripheral vision or spatial awareness.

This means that when they stand up to get something from their locker you will get a large backend in your face as they fiddle about relentlessly looking for something in their jacket, leaving you to ponder that in reality travel really broadens the behind and not the mind and why the designer couldn't have experimented instead with the cardboard tubes from bath tissue rather than cigar tubes and built a bigger plane.

Cox is experiencing a cold front with one –two inches of snow. The current Dayton weather will have little effect on flights.

The early snowfall in Atlanta, which has resulted in Delta’s cancellation of 625 flights on Friday, finds the Hartsfield ground staff successful in getting equipment into the air. No de-icing is required.

Our shuttle is boarded, and we depart the Delta Drama of Hartsfield. Our flight is uneventful, and pass on wine and bourbon service in Comfort Plus.

We find several inches on snow on arrival. As we depart Hartsfield, we can see that the Atlanta snow is uneven. We pick up visions of snow as we approach Cincinnati.

The Delta crew merits a five of five.

Savanna Hilton Head International to Hartsfield is a shuttle, which we enjoy. We know that Atlanta has experienced recent snow; while Savannah has not. We know that Hartsfield can handle this weather event. Friday, Delta canceled 625 flights, and we are considering a volunteer option for our flight. We provide Delta the opportunity to purchase our seat for as $800.00 bid.

We find that the boarding process in Savannah requires as much time as the flying time to Atlanta. We elect Comfort Plus for this shuttle.

By Sunday morning, Hartsfield is in remarkable condition. All is not back to normal, as our shuttle lands at the International Concourse. It is not normal for the Savannah Shuttle to land at International. We have a thirty-minute connection and the connection involves the Plane Train.

Delta does drama well, and this drama is beyond our control.

Because of events beyond our control, we pause in Center Concourse B for Chocolate Torte at Café Intermezzo.

No need for de-icing, and the shuttle departs and lands on time.

Boarding at Hartsfield-Jackson provides some mini-drama. Nearly all of the Flight Crew has boarded for the very short flight to Savanna and Hilton Head International Airport.

The missing crew member is located somewhere in Hartsfield, and is taking his time boarding. The Delta gate agent is adamant that no passengers will board until the “lost crew member arrives.” And this is Carrier Protocol. No doubt that the gate agent is in control.

We can live with this element of drama, and have experienced much more flight drama this year. We recall the Ft Lauderdale Airport Shooting.

We are flying Comfort Plus, and there is no service in the main cabin.

We arrive at Savanna and Hilton Head International Airport 15 minutes early; however, Frequent Flyers know this is meaningless. Another Delta carrier is at our arrival gate, and requires the 15 minutes to leave the gate.

In less than 10 minutes we at the Savanna and Hilton Head International Airport carpark, and we are driving a new Charger in less than five minutes.

It is a perfect day for flying.
