I continue to hate American. Flew home from London to JFK and somehow our luggage didn't make it on the plane. We decided to stay at JFK and wait for the next flight from London which was due to arrive in an hour and see if our luggage was on that flight. That flight arrived and again our luggage was not on board. We went to the American luggage area to put in a claim and they set one up for us but told us that the luggage tags we had were not assigned to any suitcases! How is that possible when we received the tags from them upon checking in at Heathrow. It's been a week and we've been calling every day and no one knows where the luggage is - American is blaming Heathrow, Heathrow is blaming American and the luggage tags can't be associated with any suitcases because nothing is coming up when they enter the numbers so no one can tell us where our luggage is!!!

Used flyer mileage for one ticket and purchased the other. Planes were so much more roomier then the other airline we have traveled on. And it was clean! Staff were great too. Flying time went smooth. I like that there are leather/vinyl seats and not cloth, easier to Clorox wipe them! I just couldn't connect with the WiFi for some reason, but never did ask for help just read a book. But there were others that could get in. Wouldn't hesitate to use American again.

I travel internationally at least twice a year and one of them is generally on frequent flyer miles, mostly earned as credit card benefits. I loved USAir and moved to American with the merger. American, itself, now seems to do little flying to Europe and turns those routes over to its partners. British Air is the main one of them, and it charges huge fees even if you use them on only one leg of a longer flight. For this March it seemed always to be about $350 per person, each way. I knew to look around and sure enough, there were options on Iberia if you went through Miami or Boston with some pretty awkward connections. That was good enough for this one trip, to use up my miles, but I suggest switching to United Mileage plus, which has as its principle European partner Lufthansa which is better by every measure and WAY WAY cheaper in its fees. It also uses better, less crowded, hubs, both in the US and in Europe, i.e. Washington Dulles, Frankfort and Munich.
