“AVOID AVOID AVOIS”
Review of Vieques Air Link

Reviewed 9 June 2017

Avoid this airline. It is a scam. We arrived 80 minutes before the flight and the would not check us in. They would not put us in the next flight either. They just take your money.
Called to complain: "we do not give refunds or place you in a different flight". So you loose your money. It is a SCAM

Option not available for airport in Ceiba above, but we had round trip from Ceiba to Vieques and back....flight going over weather delayed but 3 planes from the same airline took off while we waited 5 hours....attendants wouldn't give any information on whether we would be able to fly or not, just that our tickets were non refundable.
They loaded up a poor 90 year old lady into the plane (8 seater) and then decided they couldn't take off, so they unload her. On our return trip, I had a chance to look the plane over on the tarmac and found 3 of the 4 tires bald or near bald....this would never pass in the U.S., but neither would this airline.
I wish Tripadvisor would allow a negative star rating because this would be way below zero.

VAL - Vieques Air Link is a nice way to transport you from the main island Puerto Rico to the smaller islands. We flew to the Island of Viesques and it only took an 18 minute flight.

We started in San Juan International Airport where we went to the far left Check-In booth to get our tickets and have our bags/personal effects weighed. Note: Everything you carry in your hands is weighed not just your bigger luggage. They have a 30 pound free per person and approx. $1 for every pound over.

At that point you will have your boarding passes and advance to TSA and your gate. You will be greeted at your gate and taken to the plane.

This is an eight (8) passenger seated plane with props. It is quite an experience for anyone that has never been in a plane that small. Good news - it is only 18 minutes over some beautiful landscape and seascape.

Landing in Vieques we got off the plane and received our bags. Flight was nice and steady - enjoyed it.

Note: The Vieques Terminal is under construction so checking back in is right at the departure entrance. Same routine of check-in and bag/personal effects weigh in before you fly.

Our flights both ways were on-time and we enjoyed our pilot and ground crew.

Worst air company. Small and trash. We booked flight through its website and we didn't receive any email confirmation or ticket information. When we get to the airport for check in, the agent told us the check in process was already closed because we should check in 1 hour before our plane leave. But we didn't even know this policy. The company didn't give any notice in advance. Besides, no refund and cannot change another flight. Smallest and Worst. When we book the ticket at another company, Cape Air, we had everything. Confirmation, notice and we can cancel the flight. Compared to Cape, VAL is nothing but trash.

We purchased tickets on the first morning flight from San Juan Isla Grande to Vieques. Our flight was delayed due to mechanical issues that needed to be addressed in Vieques. We were scheduled to depart at 8:30 am, but didn't takeoff until 10:30 am. The VAL ticketing agent was extremely apologetic and even refunded the money that he had charged us for our overweight luggage. (VAL charges $1 per pound for bags over 50 lbs.) The delay wouldn't have been so bad if the airport was more comfortable, but the seats are hard, the room is cold and the only food and beverage can be found in a single vending machine. Once in the air, the flight to Vieques is quick - approximately 25 minutes - and the views are breathtaking. The pilot, co-pilot and entire VAL crew were friendly and professional. The airport in Vieques is larger than Isla Grande and has a little food stand as well as shaded outdoor seating. Guests of the W Resort have a private, indoor waiting area. I'm a nervous flier, but I thought that the plane was comfortable and the flight was smooth. The propellers are very loud so next time I'll pack earplugs for me and my children.
