My recent 3 week trip to India was absolutely memorable and enjoyable but for a very stressful morning on 27 April when my daughter and I turned up to Mumbai Airport (T1) to board my GoAir flight to Kochi at 07:20. I used Air India, Air Asia and IndiGo for my other domestic flights during the trip and everything ran smoothly. However, when we turned up for this one GoAir flight to Kochi, we were shocked to be told by two check-in staff that the flight was overbooked and that the configuration of the plane had changed at the last minute which meant that even less passengers could board the plane! As compensation, one Customer Executive, called Radika, guaranteed us a refund of "double the fare" to enable us to buy a ticket with another airline. Another Customer Executive, called Sunil Surendran, guaranteed us the same refund of "double the fare" which would be in our account after 7 days. We had to be in Kochi by 11am as we had a driver and a planned itinerary of sightseeing waiting for us and so we had no option but to buy new tickets at more that 2.5 times the cost of these GoAir tickets. We then had to rush off to Terminal 2 in a shuttle bus to catch an IndiGo flight to Kochi at 09:10. Needless to say that we are, 3 weeks later, still waiting, and chasing, the refund of "double the fare". Trying to get through to Customer Service of GoAir in India is a nightmare and they are totally unhelpful. I now read that GoFirst/GoAir has filed for bankruptcy on 2 May 2023 and has cancelled all its flights until 26 May. I am not the least bit surprised and I hope that their clueless ground staff don't keep promising refunds of "double the fare"! I am still in the process of getting them to honour the "guaranteed" refund of "double the fare" but I strongly urge you NOT to ever consider travelling by GoFirst/GoAir as it will seriously cost you, as it did us!
