“The trip from Hades”
Review of Mokulele Airlines

Reviewed 10 July 2023

What a horrible experience.

From the 350 lb dude who stuck his very large butt in my face while trying to get into his seat, to the two (yes two) very old pugs that puked on the floor while we were waiting for ATC clearance to the very marginal A/C that did nothing to dissipate the smell of dog puke, it was the trip from hades.

Never again.

The airline should not allow people to large to maneuver down the aisles on the plane. And, they should not allow two dogs of any kind and particularly two dogs who were in the kind of distress these dogs were.

If you are thinking "oh that small plane would allow some nice sight seeing", don't do it. Run like the wind. It just ain't worth it.

I booked online with Mokulele and received a confirmation number for four passengers flying from Honolulu to Kapalua and Kahului to Kona on June 9th and June 13th respectively. We showed up to our flight from Honolulu to Kapalua and were told we did not have a ticket. Even though we had a confirmation code, Mokulele never booked our flight or charged for the tickets! We found the same occurred for our flight to Kona. Needless to say, we had to scramble to find new flights as Mokulele's flights were all booked. Thankfully, Hawaiian Airlines had flights available to replace both trips. It was a better service and plane from Hawaiian than what we would have received from Mokulele. The Mokulele agent who tried to help us said this occurs frequently where confirmation codes are issued, but flights are not actually booked! They did not offer any assistance in helping us find alternate flights, etc. IF you choose to use Mokulele, I seriously recommend contacting them after you receive your online booking confirmation to ensure that it is actually booked and you have seats!!! I would NEVER use this airline in the future unless there were no other options to get where you are traveling in the Hawaiian Islands!!

Thought it was kind of unprofessional to do with only a week's notice having had the reservations for months.

Upon calling to inquire, we were told the flight service was being restructured at that time slot was being canceled across the board. Even the assistant thought it was odd since the scheduled flight was at full capacity.

Attendant urged to re-book on a later flight, but we just demanded our money back and rebooked on Hawaiian Airlines. Wasn't going to give them the opportunity to cancel another flight at the last minute. Burn me once...

This is such a scam . They offer “personal item and carryon” per person. What they don’t tell you is They have a max weight of 15 lbs the dimensions of their bags is also six inches smaller than any other airline. This is fine! But they don’t tlel you until your at your gate. The. All of a sudden you owe them for two bags, $110 per flight. I’m flying with them three more times unfortunately and now I have all these unexpected fees. Such a SCAM. See photo below for the real fees they don’t post on their website:

I will post this with 1 caveat that when the airline does run from Kapalua to HNL it is amazing and saves lots of time and worth the extra money. The issue with them is that it rarely runs.

We booked roundtrip flights JHM-HNL, they cancelled within 24 hours and conned us into rebooking via their system on Southwest Airlines via OGG. The problem is that ticket is $50 less per person and the OGG airport is 45 mins away from Kapalua so not only did we have to find our own way to OGG (another $60 uber each way) but then also gave Mokulele a profit on rebooking our flight on a cheaper airline. Their customer service is horrendous and they wont refund you for anything.

IF you flight is cancelled take your refund and rebook somewhere else. DO NOT LET THEM REBOOK YOU. They will tell you all about their rules and regulation fine print if you try to get a refund from them.
