Los Alcazares August 2016

Recently stopped in Los Alcazares for lunch and a drink and being October, it was fairly quiet. Thinking of returning next summer as it seemed a nice area. We would be staying on the outskirts though so will hire a car. Is there plenty going on in the evenings in the main square? We will be travelling with 17 and 16 year old daughters who won't want to spend the evenings in the hotel. Any tips appreciated.

One thing in August it can get very hot, August is high season so it gets busy in the square so theres all ways plenty going on. You can find a lot of info if you go to the travel information center. A lot of Spanish have there holidays in August that means car parking can be a problem in Los Alcazares. Need any more help let me know, Have a good holiday.

Thanks for your comments. We've been to Playa Flamenca/La Zenia in August so know it will be hot :) Wanted to go somewhere different and liked the look of this area as the town felt a bit more Spanish. I know the hotel is remote but just wanted reassurance that there will be nightlife nearby to keep the girls happy. Thanks again.

As stated, there is a terrific atmosphere in Los Alcazares in August. As you will know if you have been just up the road in Playa Flamenca, there are tens of thousands of Spanish people in the area enjoying their holidays at that time, in addition to the other nationalities that come. There is a big festival usually around the middle of the month centred around the areas history as the market garden of Spain and the ready availability of fish and seafood (Huerta y el Mar). Lots of outdoor tapas bars go up in the area where the Tuesday market is (this gets very busy) plus there are various activities around and about the place and entertainment every night although this reflects folk traditions of Spain and other countries so may not really appeal to children. What will be child friendly though is the big parade that takes place on (I think) the Saturday night where amongst other things produce and other items are thrown out from the backs of lorries. Children seem to love scampering around picking the stuff up. Most of the locals usually bring a carrier bag!
