Malaria advice please!

Hi. We travel to habanara for 2 nights as part of an island tour. Have been advised to have hep A, typhoid and dip/tetanus jabs. Also it was suggested we take anti malaria medication. Having read about side effects can you advise if this is a necessity? Thanks

Hi there,

Other jabs fine. Malaria advice totally outdated, it's eradicated from Lanka since a few years...

As EriK says, that advice is WOEFULLY out of date! If it was given by a UK healthcare professional......

This is the NHS web site which is used by Travel Health advisors, GPs, Practice Nurses etc, and is regularly updated

Sure, it is. There's no preventative/minimising infection drug. Just cover up legs and arms all day as well as at night and apply a repellant. Air con rooms are best and sometimes have plug in repellants supplied but arm yourself with an insect spray and use it, windows closed, before dinner each night.

I believe Colombo and the west coastal areas are the riskiest for dengue.

Well urban areas are riskiest; also e.g. Kandy and P'ruwa or Trinco. The bug breeds in still water (e.g. puddles and unused water tanks) and these are found most in city areas :-(

Tnx,

Yes. Very good

But why are you re-opening very old threads by copy-pasting the same info? That's spam
