Habarana to sigiriya and pollonaruwa

Hello,

Just wondering would it be possible to go from habarana to climb sigiriya rock in the morning and then visit the temples of pollonaruwa in the afternoon? How long would it take and what would be the best way to do it? A tuk tuk for the day?

Thanks in advance!

C

Can do, tuk tuk will do. There is about 60km from Habarana to Polonnaruwa. That part can be uncomfortable in a tuk tuk. If so you can take a bus. Will take about 1 hour and very cheap. Then from Polonnaura take another tuk tuk.

yes you can do... climb sigiriya in the morning. Evening Polonnaruwa

To sigiriya by tuk tuk..and then from inamaluwa junction take a bus to polonnaruwa ( 45km - 1 hour) ... then hire a bike ( lkr 500-750 per person) to visit polonnaruwa ancient city.. come back to Habarana by bus. tuk tuk to tour hotel.

you can hire a tuk for the whole day.. but it can be little expensive than using buses from inamaluwa to polonnaruwa, but more flexible.... its up to you.

p.s Some people climb sigiriya early in the morning and do polonnaruwa in the early afternoon and go Minneriya safari for 3-6pm session. it will be slightly rush but can do.. up to you.

HI all, thinking of a similar trip although wondering if it would be better to stay in Pollonaruwa instead? Train from Columbo, then visit the ancient city. Then use this as a base to visit Sigiriya and Dambulla then head south to beaches or is Habarana still a better base?

Habarana as base will have totally less travel time, as there is no direct 2WD-capable road from P'ruwa to Sigiriya and the rest.

Thank you for the advice. I think it seems easiest to stay in Habarana and see the sights from there!

Following much, much research I have chosen Habarana as a three night base to do the following:

Dambulla cave on the way from Negombo

Day 2: Polonnaruwa and Minnariya

Day 3: Anuradhapura and Mihintale

Day 4: Sigiriya before travelling to Kandy
