Chrani is a small touristy hamlet. Pretty peaceful and laid back, 5/6 tavernas, one cafe bar , a couple of small supermarkets and a souvenir shop for gifts, maps ,newspapers etc . A couple of beach bars north along the beach and main road .

The beach is about 3/4 of a mile long, a mixture of sand, shingle and pebbles, good and safe swimming.

A very good centre for all the various ancient sites and castles, you'll need to hire a car . A local hire company ,Rigatos, is based in Chrani; a helpful man with very good English.

The Rough Guide to Greece is useful as is The Peloponnese published by Bradt. There are a couple of large scale maps and a local book of walks , available at Pierre's Gift Shop, mentioned above.

Like many others I return year after year. In June the beach is crowded if anyone spreads their mat within 50 yards. Feel free to ask more questions if I can help.

Don't miss Ancient Messini which is wonderful - at least as interesting and impressive as more well known sites like Olympia, and much less visited. Pylos, Koroni and Methoni all have castles, each very different from the others and all well worth visiting. The lakes and waterfalls at Polilimnio are spectacular though we found the main section crowded in June - go early or late in the day and/or head for the quieter sections as described in my recent trip report. Another vote for the Bradt Guide which is excellent.

We are staying at Paris Village, any feedback is welcome!! Thank you for the brilliant replies really helpful, I will certainly look at the guides you mention. It looked like a good base to many places as well as being relaxing and peaceful.

Paris Village has a good reputation (I've never visited) .Around a five minutes walk along the main road to the small Village centre.

We had a lovely time in Chrani, but didn't go very far afield as it was just too hot! We loved the relaxed feeling of the village, and the general friendliness from tourists and Greeks alike.

We did walk to Ag Andreas and got the bus back. You can also get to Koroni on the bus. There are some marked walks into the mountains, which would be lovely if it's not too hot.

All the tavernas serve similar food at similar prices, except Billy's Place which is a gyros/kebab place and take-away and very good value.

The beach is pretty stony, so take some aqua shoes if you have sensitive feet!

Have a great time.
