Looking for ideas of main things I should do when spending time in Corfu town before leaving on Cruise. How far from port etc
It depends very much what you like to do...
.... but I would have a cool drink on the Liston and watch the world go by (an arched colonnade of cafes on the edge of the esplanade), and wander the old, winding streets and squares back from the port and behind the Liston.
There are two old forts (one name Old and one named New - neither new!), and plenty of little shops to browse in. Plenty of places to eat.
Not enough time to see much outside the town // the above link may give you some ideas
Thanks for that, old town looks fine for the day. Good website link too
We were there last week. It is a small town to walk around BUT very hot so that limits the time you may want to spend sightseeing. Everyone (even those from Greece) was struggling to walk up the Old Fort!
Try the Byzantine Museum, even if you only spend a few minutes looking around the view from inside the church to the blue sea outside is one of the most stunning i have ever seen. The old town is full of hundreds of tourist shops that are not worth looking at. Sadly cars, motor bikes and graffiti and litter spoil much of Corfu Town.
Be prepared for prices equivalent to the UK. Coffee over 2euro, a Ginger beer 3Euro. Horrible wine even at somewhere like REX (supposedly a top restaurant) at 5euro a glass.
Try the ultra-cool bar NUEVO (near MacDonalds, at the end of Liston) best food we had all week, even the sandwich's are good and the white wine too!
