Cruise Ship - Group of Five

Hi,

I will be in a group of five. It seems everyone recommends a taxi tour. Are there public taxi's that are larger then your standard sedan (ex: suv or mini van) that can accomodate 5 people or are we going to have to do two cabs? Other alternative would be to rent a car....would automatic transmition be easy to get?

Thanks

first of all, you should understand that your stop in Corfu is only for a few hours. Usually from 9 - 10 am until 5-7 p.m. Therefore renting a car will waste some time in formalities, getting to know the roads and the driving habits here.. Well, I wouldn't !!

If you are planning to walk around Corfu town which is a 10 min walk from the cruise ship pier, then you don;t need a car. Not to mention that it is almost impossible to find a parking space ( even paid for) on a weekday morning. If you don't care about Corfu town sightseeing and you wish to go and spend your time on a beach, it will be easier and cheaper to get 1-2 taxi's and book them for your way back.

Normally ,you can't do both, unless you walk fast and don't want to rub suntan oil on the beach !

Have a look at this article , that might help you

Check out www.corfuexcursions.com. They appear to specialise in trips for cruise passengers.

Part of this depends upon what you want to do while in Corfu. Do you want to see the town (go up in the forts, etc)? Do you want to find a beach and plant yourself there? I agree with the previous responses that you won't have a lot of time, so touring the island is not really an option (it is a whole island after all)--and hiring a driver for a tour may end up being a huge waste of time and money. If you want beach--follow previous advice and hire a taxi ahead of time to get you to the nearest beaches to the north. That will give you the most swim time, sand time, down time. If you want to see the city itself, you can easily walk 10 minutes (just follow the water's edge south into town). Car rental will be pricey, and you can be sure that the process of just getting the thing will eat up more time than it should. Also, automatics are uncommon and therefore VERY expensive.

Places that are close to Corfu town: If you are interested in seeing a lush site, look into Mon Repos--beautiful park-like property to walk through, gorgeous old mansion, nice views It would be different from what you are seeing/doing on the boat! You can Take a taxi there from the port in probably 25 minutes (i walked it from town, but you won't want to take the time to do that). You might also think about Kanoni--just south of the airport--with Mouse island. Very photographed place.

Good luck!
