Permit fees for Pondicherry

Recently we had been on a trip to Pondicherry from Bangalore via a Tempo traveller with 13 seats - 8 people on board. At the checkpost before Hosur, the driver took Rs.800 from us as permit charges. After he came back with the permit and we asked him for a receipt, he said there are no receipts and that they only stamp the vehicle document. Is this the right charge he took from us ?

All government departments including Transport Department should issue necessary receipts for the money received to Government Accounts. In this case the Stamp should contain the details of the permit amount received.

But the true side of the story is that all transport RTO check post officials will collect over and above the stipulated charges which do not come in the Government Account. These are called "Bribes" in the public parlance.

The Bangalore RTO checkpost before bangalore entry is notorious for this act. Moreover they dont allow the passenger to come near the collection counter and only permit the driver to come with the documents.

The drivers have a unanimous statement saying this is what is the regular happening in the RTO checkpost and end of the day it is the passengers who are worst affected.

God Save India & Tourism.

Thank you.. That is what i also thought. But we do not even know whether the driver charged us what he paid or made a hefty margin there too.
