Best beach for what? Swimming, shelling, sitting, softness of the sand?

High rises? Undeveloped?

We need more information.

As far as awards, it would be Siesta Key.

But as the above post says, you weren;t specific enough

Take a look at:

Siesta Key (not the South end...the beach is more coarse there...the main beach has beautiful white sand).

Just North of Siesta Key is Anna Maria Island...a favorite with many families. Both Siesta and Anna Maria are close enough to Sarasota to allow spending a day or two exploring what that community has to offer.

Sanibel Island (very low key...natural beaches / shelly, a bicycling island with paths from end to end. Not everyone's idea of a great Florida beach vacation, but those who enjoy the mixture of full conveniences and downplay of commercialism would not go anywhere else. Connects to Captiva Island...also fairly laid back, but a higher price point)

Marco Island (also beautiful, wide white beaches with accommodations ranging from modest condos to luxurious estate homes)

If you have additional questions about any of these, you might want to check out the websites of their visitors bureau / chamber of commerce...then, come on back to the specific discussion board. Good Luck!
