How do I get fromToulouse airport to Vielha, other than renting a car? Is there any public transportation or group shuttle vans?
Travelling solo and considering renting a car to drive to Vielha. Nervous doing this alone as I do not speak Spanish or French. Any ideas on how easy it would be to drive it?
Otherwise, I guess I would fly into Barcelona and take the 4 hour bus ride up to Vielha and rent a car once I arrive - thoughts?
It's a 2.5h drive from Toulouse (130 miles) across several natural parks. It's well worth and it's a tranquil area so you don't need to be nervous -no dense traffic anywhere! Yet if you're driving in winter, note that sometimes some roads can be closed due to snow/ice.
PS. Not to add salt to your already language dilemma... but in Catalonia where Vall d'Aran is located, the regional language is Catalan -albeit Spanish is also spoken. Furthermore, Vall d'Aran -where Vielha is capital of- has a local language, called Aranès. All of them are languages on their own right -not dialects- but since all, including French and Spanish, do derive from Latin, they all have common roots and grammar. Yet using English shouldn't be much of a problem in more touristy towns :)))
Thanks for great info! Once in Vielha I will be fine as my son is there on a student exchange. Concern is more the driving to/from by myself and not knowing the language. I guess with a GPS in a rental car I should be OK (barring there isn't a snowstorm when I arrive or depart in late February).
