Halal food available in Ouistreham or Caen?

Hi there

My husband and I are travelling to Ouistreham in a few days and are wondering if anybody knows if there is anywhere to eat out locally where the food does not contain either Pork or Alcohol? We are Muslims and only have B&B booked. Oh, and neither of us speak French either :-(

Thanks

Many thanks,

I too found this website however my husband hates Kebabs!! He loves fish and shellfish as do I but am worried about how they are cooked (using alcohol etc). It would be so lovely to eat fruits de la mer etc.

Has anybody got any ideas?? Sorry, grasping at straws here!!

Although religion based diet is far from my realm of experience I think it unlikely your fish and shellfish would be cooked in alcohol.

If you are okay with seafoods why not simply get a French phrase book and find how to ask how the fish is prepared?

I have read that all meat in Britain is now halal... might it not be the same in France?

Mussels are often cooked in white wine (moules marinées). They are also cooked in cream "à la normande"

But a sea food plater (assiette de fruits de mer) aren't cooked in alcohcol

There you go... a phrase book or Patricia Wells' PDF food guide would help:

Are you asking specifically for halal food or no pork and alcohol? No pork and alcohol is easy. As Colin said, a seafood platter won't be cooked in alcohol. There are omelettes, steak and chips, lamb chops, pizzas...... There are also plenty of North African restaurants in France which I'm sure must cater to the muslim palate.
