Looking for advice on hotels in Unawatuna as going round in circles on all the websites! I can’t seem to make sense of the prices as some seem too cheap to be true and others comparatively expensive but can’t see why 😩

We are a couple in our 30’s looking for a reasonably comfortable hotel, but still want to feel like we are in Sri Lanka. Trying to avoid doing the whole package holiday thing.

Ideally walking distance to bars/restaurants but not too noisy. Would like a decent balcony with loungers and ocean view. Want to do some day trips too so somewhere that can offer good advice on where/how to go.

Thanks for any ideas offered!

Probably going mid March.

Welll generally found Calamandar, Thambapanni (both for below USD 100) and Flower Garden (below USD 80) worth the mentioned price level. See here

for excursions.

We stayed at Veranda di Serena. The rooms are basic but have aircon, a fan and mosquito nets. The hotel is walking distance away from the restaurants and bars. If you choose a room with a seaview, you won't hear the traffic.

We have just come back from a stay at Beach Castle in Unawatuna and it ticks all of your boxes. It's at the end of the main beach but close enough to walk to bars and restaurants. Views from the balcony are amazing, really quiet at night, staff can not do enough for you, good air con, basic but adequate breakfast included. The place is also spotlessly clean.

Can't recommend it highly enough.
