Transport from Pompeii to Vietri as base

It seems Vietri Sul Mar may be prettier than Salerno as a base for 2 nights end April.

We also want to see the Museo Ceramiche at Villa Guaraglia there.

We are coming from Pompeii & from Vietri we want to visit Paestum, maybe Agropoli if time.

First question is about tranport to Vietri from Pompeii.

Which is best: train (which type/line?) or is there also an easy bus option from Pompei?

How late in the day do these services run?

WHERE is the train station in Vietri & how do we access pensione in town from it?

Another question is: which is easiest transport to & from Salerno? Bus or train?

thanks so much for your time and knowledge!

You're right Vietri sul Mare is certainly cuter than Salerno and much more authentic than Sorrento so that's where I've choosen too!

With only 2 nights, you don't have time to visit Agropoli. You will need to take a bus to reach the ceramics museum as it is in nearby Raito.

Vietri certainly is a gem!

There are usually one or two trains per hour to Pompeii from Vietri. The train station is at the top of the hill in Vietri on Corso Umberto I (you can view it on Google Maps). The train takes around 40 minutes - you don't arrive at the Pompeii Scavi site entrance, but at the new town centre, from which it's about a 15 minute walk to the ruins. Current cost is 2.20 Euros. It looks like the last train back to Vietri is currently 22.33.

To get to Paestum, you get a train into Salerno and then one on to Paestum, it takes a bit over 1 hour.

Have a good trip!
