Waitomo cave or Ruakuri cave

Hi,

I am planning to have a trip to the cave with my husband and 3.5 year old daughter on April 2nd.

I have a back problem though I can walk for around 2 km.

Wanted to find out:

1) how long is the Ruakuri cave?

2) Can I get a wheel chair there if I do not bring my own?

3) Is this cave less dark compared to Waitomo cave? I am asking thing considering kid might get scared in complete darkness.

Which do you think will suit us more considering my back and our 3.5 year old daughter?

Thanks

Hi Mahima.

You cannot take a wheelchair into the Waitomo Glowworm Caves as there are stairs, but this tour is much shorter (45 minutes, which includes a boat ride).

The Ruakuri Cave tour is 2 hours long, and is wheelchair accessible, but you will need to bring your own. This cave has good lighting, and is popular for families.

Hope this helps :-)
