The narrows and angels landing thanksgiving week

We are planning to visit Zion on Monday and Tuesday the week of thanksgiving. Wondering how crowded things might be those days and how parking will be by start for these hikes. Shuttles are not running of those days so wanted to see if parking will be hard to find.

Also, we are planning to rent gear as I expect temps to be pretty cold. Do you think there will be high water and if there is rain predicted does that mean there will be flash floods?

Thanks!

Cathy

Being at the trailhead early will be the solution to getting a parking space. If there's any threat of flash flooding, the Narrows will be closed. Check with the Park Rangers about conditions when are there.

Lillianhua - expect crowds. Thanksgiving week is one of the most popular times at Zion.

I would have an outfitter resource in mind where you're going to rent gear. Not all of them stay open this late in the year. Zion Adventures will know the current conditions and give you recommendations on how many baselayers, dry pants vs dry suit (depends on water depth.)

You will want to start the Narrows as early as possible in the day if you plan to hike most of the bottom up length. Daylight will be obviously short, and the deep canyon walls will mean it gets dark earlier in the Narrows slot than what you would expect. For any hike in the Narrows in the short daylight months, be sure to pack a headlamp.

For a Narrows hike, the cold water gear is quite necessary during Thanksgiving timing. As indicated, Zion Adventures is the go to place in the winter for gear as well as experience. Zion Outfitter will be equally as equipped. If possible, visit them the night before your planned hike so as to save you some time. Fitting and orientation will take about an hour or so.

Parking for the Temple of Sinawava should not be a huge issue in the morning. However parking at the Grotto will always be an issue when the shuttle is not running. If the morning is very frosty, then trying Angel's Landing at the crack of dawn would not be recommended as the climb would be slippery. Note however that it takes about 1-1.5 hours to get from the Grotto up to the start of Angel's Landing.
