Redwoods, Yosemite, and the Pacific Ocean

We are trying to plan a week long trip that includes seeing the Redwoods, Yosemite, and the Pacific Ocean, and maybe some of San Francisco if that is the closest airport.. We would be traveling the second week of April in 2017. We would love to get some advice on the best way to see these places. Thanks in advance!!

You could see the coastal redwoods at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park which is near Santa Cruz:

The Pacific Ocean is California's western boundary. Is there a particular part of the coast that interests you? The more information you give us, the more we can help.

Hi Melanie, and welcome to TripAdvisor forums.

This is the Yosemite forum, so all the topics in the Top Questions on the right are just about Yosemite. To read about groves of Coastal Redwoods, California itineraries, and more, I recommend that you look at the California state forum page.

(My guess is that you'll fly into SFO and transfer to SF, then pick up your reserved car and drive to Yosemite Valley. Then drive to the Central Coast around Cambria. Then drive north up Hwy 1 to Monterey. On your way to SFO, stop at Henry Cowell.)

On this page, read about Planning a Spring Visit, Lodging, Maps, Trip Reports, and more. Probably spend 3 nights / 2 full days. Get lodging reservations a year in advance, if you can.

It's a possibility that the Mariposa sequoia grove in Yosemite may be open by the time of your trip. Then you could fly into San Francisco, drive to Yosemite, stay in the valley for a couple/few nights. You could spend your final night at Wawona, go through the Mariposa sequoia grove in the morning, then head for the coast. You could stay in Carmel or Monterey for a couple of nights to explore the coast, then go back to San Francisco for a couple of days.
