Highway 120 OPEN (so is the 140)

You can take the Tioga Pass over the Sierras!

Yosemite Valley is still closed, but you can get to the 120 via the 140 (hopefully Marmot will update us on YARTS). I believe they are diverting cars from the 140 onto the 120, which means you can use either the North or the Arch Rock (middle) entrance to YNP to get to the 120 and the high country.

Hikers posting on other forums yesterday said views and air were mostly good in the high country, with winds being the key factor.

Air Quality in the Valley is still unhealthy but moving closer to being "moderate" in terms of both pollen and particulates.

A person driving west on the 120 to the 140 would get views of the Valley (and someone driving the opposite direction could certainly stop at a viewpoint to see the views). Things are still hazy.

The park website says that 120 (Tioga Pass Road) is only open to White Wolf, not the junction with 140.

The Park website is not updated often. The recorded phone line is updated daily (or more often as needed.)

We are just about to head to Lone Pine from Jamestown - I read on the morning update they were hoping to open the 120 at 12 noon, is it already open?

Recorded phone line says that only Tioga Road is open (between Crane Flat & Tioga Pass.)

It's open to the park entrance (so depending on where you're starting out from, you may wish to time that for the noon opening). There will undoubtedly be a long line of cars at the entrance. Most people planning to take the road are coming from the other direction - so they should be fine.

The 140 is already open, according to SierraNewsOnline, no restrictions for El Portal at all, all evacuation orders lifted (fire went through there a couple of weeks ago). So, since the Valley is not open, your only choice is to go to the 120 (so while the park entrance near Groveland is closed until noon, people can drive to the Tioga Road through El Portal if necessary).

Inciweb shows it still closed as of this morning's update... https:/…

The SierraNewsOnline article actually contradicts itself... it says 140 is open from Briceburg to YNP, and 120 scheduled to open at noon, and then ten paragraphs later it says 140 is only open to residents and 120 is still closed.

They haven't been updating the lower part of their article. Yesterday, the 140 opened to residents at 10 am. Today, it would appear the morning update is that the 140 is open.

The 120 has never completely closed during this fire. Presumably, with the 140 open, people go through the entrance and then are diverted up the 120/Big Oak Flat Road to Tioga Road.

We are just about to leave and should arrive at the Big Oak entrance on the 120 around noon... fingers crossed! I will update to definitively confirm if I have signal.

Please do, Tomby.

Sadly, the Park is keeping the Arch Rock entrance closed, although CalTrans says the road is safe. It must all hinge on whether they are going to reopen the Valley.
