Alternatives to Yosemite

Regards to the latest update over the fires situation, the park is closed indefinitely.

We visit here on the 6th of September for 2 nights. So praying it will have been sorted by then.

If not, time to plan B.

Our is traveling from San Fran to Yosemite, then onto the coastal road direction via carmel.

What are your thought for alternatives. I was thinking Lake Tahoe is too far off course.

What about kings canyon and Sequoia

Any other ideas

We visited Sequoia and Kings Canyon last year and I was quite impressed. Kings Canyon was a mini-Yosemite without the waterfalls. The Sequoias were something you just have to experience to fully grasp.

if you're hikers sequoia has a nice hike, you hike out to heather lake, then emerald lake, then pear lake, and back. if you aren't game for doing all three lakes skip pear but make it to emerald.

I do want to make sure you're aware of the distances involved. Assuming Yosemite is fully open when you arrive, it's still 5-6 hours' drive from SF to the valley floor (no matter what Google tells you). From Yosemite Valley to Carmel is 7 hours' drive, and then it's 3 hours from there to Cambria down Hwy. 1.

That's wheels turning and stopped in traffic, not including rush hours (afternoons eastbound from SF, and the inevitable traffic from Tunnel View down into the valley). If you want to stop and see anything, you need to tack that time on.

It's about 4.5 hours from Yosemite Valley to Lake Tahoe, and about 4 hours from Tahoe to SF in normal traffic.

We have taken rush hours into consideration and are making sure we head out of major cities and towns outside of these times. But thanks for that.

We had no choice when planning with the time we had. Either that or do one place then another next year so on so on
