Las Tunas for a week

Is Las Tunas a good place to go for a relaxing week to learn to surf?

What is the weather like in May? I have heard it is the begining of the dry seaon with mostly overcaste days.

I hope to spend a month in Ecuador with one week on the beach. I read about Montanita but it seems a bit to loud and rowdy for me. I like some night life but nothing that would keep me awake in to the am.

Las Tunas is quiet and nice place to go for surfing. Also check for Ayangue and Ayampe. My favourite place for Surfing is Punta Carnero, there you have awesome waves. Montañita is a funky town, lots of latino hippies spend months there, while travelling trough South America. It has its own interesting ambiance.

No night life at Las Tunas. Great night life at Montañita.

Thanks for your advice! I am a complete novice at surfing. I've tried it once and was able to stand for a few second. Do you have any recommendations on a good place to learn in the month of May?

Montañita is the best surfing learning village. There are plenty of schools even when waves are too small. I had read about Bungaows La Buena Vida in Ayampe, but never tried it.

Montanita is a great place to hang out for awhile to learn to surf and have some fun. The beach is great and there are some nice places to stay. I wanted some peace and quiet and a swimming pool that was kept properly clean! and so ended up at the Montanita Cabanas which are about 5 mins walk from the center. They were great and everyone was really friendly.

If you're looking for a Surf school and Peace and Tranquility, try Otra Ola (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Otra-Ola/124434360908127?sk=info) in Ayampe (situated between Montanita and Puerto Lopez). I just returned from the Las Tunas/Ayampe area and loved it. It doesn't get much more peaceful or Tranquil.

Las Tunas is great. I stayed at Viejamar Surf School. Rodrigo, the owner, and I went out surfing everyday. I'd tried surfing once before but here was a much easier place for a novice. We had the beach basically all to ourselves. There was only one other surfer out there the whole week. I'd highly recommend the town. There's no night life (other than the milkshake and hamburger shop, big fan of the Mora Shake) but the local restaurants are great. Hope your trip goes well. If you're looking to learn to surf, take it from a Idaho boy that came in with very little prior experience, you can learn here.
