Just back

Just back from a wonderful 14 nights B&B in Ida hotel, excellent as usual. We had beautiful meals in Ida, Champagne and Mandalin all of which most definatly know how to cook T bone and fllet steak. We also had lovely fish and chips in Frier Tucks and beautiful food in Taj Mahal, we went to the Waterfall which was very dissapionting compared to previous years and Coco beach for lunch once and never again, the staff were very rude and not interested in the customer at all. It was very quiet to previous years at this time which is sad to see but we still had a brilliant time and look forward to our next visit.

P.S. we did find prices had gone up since our visit in May this year although there are still a lot of places 3 course deals.

3. Re: Just back

Sounds like you had a good holiday except for some rudeness - surprising considering they are very much in need of tourists this season! However, no doubt that's one place off your list.

I remember a post Eileen when you asked about Super dry coats, jackets etc. Did you manage to get one and if so, could you please advise where?

Greenhouse on the square has lots of superdry hoodies and jackets, much better quality so they are made to last and very friendly staff too! We came back 10th Sept and definatly no cardigan required, temp might've dropped a little at night so i would take 1 just in case, fingers crossed you don't need it.

Thanks for the info Eileen L and we always buy in Greenhouse and agree with all you say about them. That's where we will be heading in a couple of weeks time.😀X

Hi Nan

You are correct, of course.

On bar prices in particular...

Prices since May 2015 have increased, yet we are getting less Lira for our £ this year.

In May this year we saw prices in some bars increasing during our stay.

Yet, some of these places are moaning about the fall in tourist business.

We really like Icmeler (3 stays in 12 months)

Whats not to like,? Beautiful location and scenery

People here saying "well its cheaper than at home " don't seem to get the point.

Families,in particular, on limited budgets look for value for money.

We just returned from Sarigerme on Monday(family of 8)

I requested and got 10%/15% discount in places we ate.

I regularly went to the same bar in the village during the day for a beer or three.(sweltering heat treatment, of course)

13 lira was the asking price (bottled efes)

I paid 10tl and also got the best exchange rate i saw in the resort during our stay. (in the same bar)

So worth haggling even in bars !

So next May/June is a toss up for us.

Sarigerme or Icmeler ? ;-)

A family of 8 gives you a good bit of clout when bartering, as opposed to a couple for example, but as you say Mick if you dont ask you dont get. What was the better resort though ?

Here just now and not finding it expensive...it all just depends where you go. Plenty of places doing great value set menus, but we eat at the little Turkish places where the food is lovely and great value too.

We did not always eat out in a group.

Although some or all of us went into the village every day. Eating/drinking/shopping (mostly me in the bars)

Although, you may be correct regards "clout"

However, the places i got deals seemed to be ok with me asking.

And i ask every time !

So its a tip for others.

The large popular hotels in Sarigerme are AIl Inc.

However the village bars/ restaurants did seem to do ok

There was a lot of live International/domestic football on TV when we were there.

Manchester and Glasgow derbies for instance.

Pubs were packed that afternoon!

Better resort?

Horses for courses, i suppose.

For a large family group with children, and its a beach/hotel/activities based holiday you want.

I would like to recommend the large hotel/resorts in Sarigerme.

But they can/are very expensive during school holiday dates.

The last 2 weeks of August this year were nearly double what i paid for first two weeks of September

Family Life Tropical Hotel/resort and i got a free child place, too

(booked last April)

Sarigerme is also a short coach transfer from Dalaman Airport (20mins/30mins)

For "oldies" like my wife and myself, Icmeler was ideal in regards to getting around the resort and lots of choice regards bars/restaurants etc.

If i was taking children to Icmeler on AI it would be somewhere like The Mirage World.

The big seafront hotels would maybe be outwith our budget.

Oh If we were younger and fitter.

We would return to Ovacik/Hisaronu area.

But it is testing for those with walking/mobility difficulties.

Stunning locations with marvelous views.

Close to Olu Deniz and Fethiye

So four resorts in one !
