The Old village..what's there??

Went to Icmeler last year, and got a bit 'hotel bound'. We didn't look around much. What is at the old Village, how do you get there from the water front? Are the prices cheaper there?

Any recommendations eating, or should go and see's?

Thanks

The old village is definitely worth a visit - we love just wandering around there. Basically, just head towards the back of the resort - the oldest part of the "old village" is towards the left hand side, near the mosque (there are two mosques, one near the market and this other one). There are lots of little lanes and alleyways - you will find houses with goats or cattle right next to them, or sometimes goats just wandering around too. Prices do tend to be a bit cheaper - I would say a "must try" is Cafe Rose, which is reasonably well signposted in the old village. Just go for a wander and explore!

Entirely agree that you should go for a wander and explore. We usually stay in the Old Village and only venture into the centre at night to go to restaurants down by the canal. Much prefer the quieter feel of the Old Village although a lot more modernised now particularly with a lot of the smallholdings now bought out and replaced with new villas and apartments. You will probably be surprised at how modern the Old Village is but still worth searching out some of the quieter bits.

To us this is the best part of Icmeler, more laid back and much more Turkish than the cosmopolitan centre and beach areas. As blondiescot says the real old village is to the left of the dry canal facing from the beach and the 'new' old village is to the right with a mix of modern villas and apartments, both residential and tourist. We love walking round the old part at night and chill out watching the world go by from Cafe Rose or Sinbads or where the notion takes us and getting the odd fright when livestock decide to let their presence known.

It's only a ten minute walk from the centre, or anywhere for that matter but go in daylight for your first visit to get your bearings. You can then expand your experience by wandering up the valley where the sides get steeper and steeper. Enjoy

Thankyou,we are going to Icmeler for the first time 1st september and having read your review ,we will be , taking a walk down to the "Old Village,The four of us are staying at the hotel Kapmar, which was recomended to us.Looking on the map,it doesnt seem far from the Hotel.

We wondered about the beach, having been to Turgutreis, and Olu Deniz,we found rubber beach shoes very handy for going in the sea, because of the little pebbles. Is Icmeler beach the same?

We are very excited now, looking forward to some sunshine...

Thankyou,Brenda David Joan and Gordon...

It isn't that far from the Kapmar really. If you come out of the hotel and turn left onto the main road, cross it and carry on up any of the roads leading up towards the back of the resort and you'll find the old village.

As for the beach, it does tend to be somewhat shingly, although there are some parts which are more sandy, so beach shoes might not be a bad idea. Have a great holiday!

I always take rubber shoes for going in the sea, the beach is very pebbly.
