Icmeler

Hi all

We have just returned from Oludeniz in Turkey which was really nice I.e nice people nice surroundings etc and the people were lovely.

Does anybody know of another area in Turkey which is like Oludeniz I.e lovely and picturest with mountains nice beach / beaches etc.

We don't like really big in you'd face places that have banging music bars.

We like smaller places that have music in the bars where you can hear your self think and have a relaxing cocktail or beer.

We like looking round lots of nice holiday / trinket shops.

We like a nice promenade that we can walk along and that has bars / restaraunts along it.

But we don't want to go to a place that is dead with nothing going on and with nothing to look at.

Is Icmeler anything like this, or is it a big bustling noisy place with nice views of mountains etc.

Thank you

Simon

Icmeler is more of a small town with a village feel. The old village is on the edge of the town nearer the hills, well worth a wander around, the locals are very welcoming & love to show you their gardens/ allotments.

There are lots of small bars & some very good restaurants to suit all ages & cultures. The local eateries are plentiful & cheap. Most staff are friendly & want to get to know you.

Icmeler has a lovely beach & harbour area. There is a promenade which takes you through to Marmaris ( around an hour to the edge, a further hour to its marina)- of course you don't have to do it all at once! There's plenty of " stop offs" on route. If you want a change from walking a regular dolmus service runs between the 2 resorts or you can use the water taxis, giving a different perspective of the coast line.

May I suggest you have a look at another forum- www.iloveicmeler.co.uk where there are lots of articles & photos which will give you an idea of the resort & surrounding area.

Give it a try, don't think you'll be disappointed!

We have stayed in both Icmeler and Olu/Hisaronu several times. Icmeler is a bigger resort than Olu, but has the same chilled vibe. It goes further inland, and it is very quiet at the back, and quite Turkish. Like Olu and Hisaronu, if you want a livelier night, or more shops, you can get a Dolmus into Marmaris.

The whole area is very scenic, and is surrounded by tree covered hills. but in Icmeler the prom faces out over the bay to more islands and other resorts. But no Hang gliders swooping down on you!

I think you would be happy here.

To add to what has been said, although Icmeler is a lot bigger I think it is well laid out with different areas of interest. There is a much better selection of restaurants in Icmeler to suit all tastes and budgets. To be honest I was disappointed with the quality of the restaurants in Olu Deniz and also felt they were overpriced. Icmeler is very walkable and away from the promenade the old village area is well worth exploring. You also have the neighbouring resorts of Marmaris and Turunc which are easy to get to by dolmus and water taxi. You should have no problem finding the types of bars and restaurants that suit you.

7. Re: Icmeler

Hi again

Does anybody know of a nice hotel all inclusive or other in Icmeler with a nice big pool / pools, that is not far away from all the nice areas, shops, bars etc but not in a noisey area.

We would be traveling as a family of 4 me, my wife and our two boys who will be 26 and 18 when we go.

(Our 26 year old is on the autistic spectrum and that's why he still comes with us).

We usually go all inclusive but In your opinion is it better to go AI or B&B or other.

Thank you

We stayed at the Oren hill apartments, it’s very near to the mountains, very quiet and relaxing with lovely staff. Quite a walk to the bars and restaurants but the dolmas stops round the corner. A little piece of heaven in a beautiful resort.

Also the old village is nearby.

There are some lovely AI hotels in Icmeler, but many on here prefer to go S/C. The choice of apartments is very good in Icmeler and the range of restaurants is excellent. The food in restaurants in great and prices range from cheap and cheerful to not too expensive

Another vote for Oren Hill apartments, lovely big walk in pool, plenty sunbeds, great family running them. Slightly out of way which makes them lovely and peaceful, yet only a 20 minute gentle stroll on the flat into town, passing many bars and restaurants on the way. Stayed there a couple of times and they get fantastic reviews
