Using MARTA or just take a taxi to get to siteseeing stops??

Will be in Atlanta next spring for 2 1/2 days - Wednesday afternoon to Saturday morning. Will not be renting a car. Will be staying at Embassy Suites Centennial/Olympic park. Selected this hotel specifically because we are used to Embassy Suites and it was located near attractions that we wanted to see (CNN and aquarium). However, I would also like to see the following and I must admit that trying to get a handle on using the MARTA system by looking at their web site is really confusing to me.

Oakland Cemetery, Cyclorama, Grant Park (MAYBE the zoo - but maybe not depends on time). We lived in the DC area for years and often went to the National Zoo, so I doubt that I would take in the zoo unless we have time to fill.

Atlanta Botanical Garden and Piedmont Park

Fox Theatre.

Just take a cab the whole way. You may not find one waiting at the MARTA station, and it would be an involved trip, as you'd have to wait for 2 trains, and change trains once you got on MARTA. A cab from Buckhead would be faster. It will also cost $15-20, but you'd spend $10 on MARTA + cab anyway.

Thanks for the info.

I am arriving on Oct 7 and I didn't think I would still be in Atlanta for the weekend but I will be so I may look into the Cemetery tour that is offered on a Saturday.

For What Its Worth,

Yes, the MARTA website is not as useful as it can be.

However, I think that's why God made Google!

On Google maps, plan out a trip, whatever, and in Atlanta, it gives you the option to figure out the mass transit/walking path as well. I don't know why MARTA just doesn't tell people to go plan their trip out there. MARTA's excuse for a trip planner is pathetic.

By the way, if mobility isn't an issue, there's nothing wrong with MARTA to Oakland Cemetery. Besides, some of the city's best fried shrimp is to be found at the Six Feet Under, nearly across the street from the Cemetery, and I'd definitely ride MARTA just to get some of that!

Anyway, you guys will be doing this in the daylight -- don't fret so much.
