What to do in Kona

We'll have about 7 -8 hours when the NCL stop at Kona. Any good suggestion for the nice beach or interesting place to visit within walking distance from the port?

Presuming you dont want to do a snorkel tour? Which if you book direct you can get much cheaper than NCL. We definitley intend visiting the Seahorse farm- but I think we may need to catch a cab there. Actually I feel bad cos we have one here at home, I've never been, and now its closing down. We are on the Christmas Day cruise, how about you? Heaps of really good info over on cruisecritic as well.

Cheers

We did the Seahorse Farm a few years ago & enjoyed it. Call me a Dork (no lo contendre to that charge), but having one of those little folks wrap its tail around your finger is a hoot. Don't recall the company, but as we were leaving, a tour van pulled up; possibly cheaper than a cab.

Also, if I can get my BIG caboose under the weight limit, we're going to do this again: adventureinhawaii.com/bigisland_parasail.htm

Actually, just hanging out in town is fun. This video ( www.youtube.com/watch… ) will give you an idea of how beautiful the place is; the chopper is heading from south to north. The stretch between about 40 seconds to the ending at 1:43 (where the shuttles land) is home to numerous shops, several museums ( http://www.konaweb.com/konaweb/museum.shtml ) and a number of great ocean-front restaurants including: www.hawaiihotels.com/Main/Sub.cfm?Id=202&Ref=

Only walking distance thing to do is shopping and dining along Alii drive main business district (lots of nice restaurants and several historice places).

From the pier you can do the first 3 stops on this drive guide. Other than that you'll need to rent a car or sign up for a tour.

As you are on the pier you could do the parasail trip and get to view the ship from above. My wife did this and didn't even get wet.

REALLY? You guys really spend 35$ to see seahorses? From the pier there is the sub, Dinner cruise, beach, snorkle, paddle or canoe even have time to do the lava thing if you have that much time......

Some historic things to see

West Hawaii Today has an article and map on a walking tour of the town.
