Aloha

I am curious if it is possible to get a glimpse of the Volcano flying OUT of Kona to HNL on Hawaiian airlines.. IF SO.. what side of the plane (If one were facing toward the cockpit) would I want to be on? MAHALO

No, the tall mountains will block it, and you won’t be anywhere near it. I have heard some rumors that Hilo flights are getting some looks thanks to HA making a bit of a pass to take it in.

For anyone else that may happen to read this, we were able to see the flow hitting the water on our return flight to the mainland. It was a red eye flight. The right side will have best view, but the folks seated across from us leaned back so we could see as well.

More generally, it's worth having a window seat. The Big Island from a distance is a most impressive sight. Kilauea's eruption is pretty small in extent by comparison.
