Need advise for our 4 days trip to Lonavala/Khandala, Mumbai

We are a team of 12 members from Hyderabad. Planning to get down at Lonavala on 26th , Jan 2017 morning. We want to stay in Lonavala for the first 3 days. Day 1 at Imagica and Day 2 & Day 3 to visit the best places in Lonavala and Khandala. Day 4 to roam in Mumbai till night and then will catch train to come back to Hyd.

We have no clear idea on how to plan this trip well. Can you please clarify our following queries.

1. What are the best places to visit in lonavala and khandala for two days (Day2 & Day 3). We are not interested in Caves, Parks and musuems. We are looking for River rafting, waterfalls, dams/lakes, awesome hill points or ports with beautiful locations. Can you please suggest accordinly with distance from Lonavala.

2. Whats is the best river rafting which should be very economical and close to Lonavala ?

2. Do you have any suggestions for cheap and best accommodation in lonavala ?

3. How to plan a day visit (Day 4 without stay) in Mumbai ?

Thanks

Lonavala & Khandala are in close proximity to each other and in my "personal" opinion, are not really different places ( located adjacent to each other the landscapes and climate are the same).

Since you are not keen on the caves and forts kind of places, you might like to visit lions point at lonavala. Also, you could check out camping at pawna lake, which is an hours drive from Lonavala. They have these camping & paragliding activities there.

You could check - http://www.around-pune.com/2014/10/kundalika-rafting-camp-nature-trails.html

Your plan to utilise your returning day time in mumbai has to be carefully thought of by you guys as the traffic in mumbai is maddenning and you could end up missing your train in case you get stuck somewhere. My advice is - Close to the station where you have to board your train, choose few places that you will like to check out.

I have tried answering your questions. Hope this helps.

1. What are the best places to visit in lonavala and khandala for two days (Day2 & Day 3). We are not interested in Caves, Parks and musuems. Not much to see here. The place is quite commercialized in the last decade or so. Monsoon is usually a good time for Waterfalls / Dam visits. Maybe you want to spend one less day in Lonavala? Think about it.

2. Whats is the best river rafting which should be very economical and close to Lonavala ?

Kolad is the only place around Mumbai that I can think of for rafting. Monsoon again is a good time but you can check out if it helps. It is about 80 kms from Lonavala.

2. Do you have any suggestions for cheap and best accommodation in lonavala ?

Given your group size there are several bungalows available for rent and that may work out the best for you. You can find the listings on several sites.

3. How to plan a day visit (Day 4 without stay) in Mumbai ?

Leave early from Lonavala - lets say by 6 AM or so. Head straight for Gateway of India / Colaba. Lot of nice breakfast options. You can also take a quick boat ride off Gateway. Colaba causeway is a great place to roam around. Good shopping options and some amazing cafes. Post that you can head out to Marine Drive. Nice place to walk for a while and grab lunch at one of the many restaurants there. Depending on your train time and where you plan to board it from you can go to Bandra West - Bandstand and Juhu Beach. Good options for hanging around in the evening. Mind the traffic in Mumbai before planning this though.
