April travel Freehold, NJ to 700 block of 53rd St Brooklyn

Need suggestions - how to get from Freehold, NJ to the 700 block of 53rd St. in Brooklyn. Public transportation for my adult son and me in early April 2017.

Thank you.

You have posted on every forum but the one where you'll get the most help: the New York City forum.

Also, as I suggested before: unless you are okay with walking several miles, telling us WHERE IN FREEHOLD you are starting from will help us help you.

All you have to do is figure out how to get into New York City. The rest is easy. At Penn Station, walk the one avenue to 6th Avenue and 34th St. From the Bus terminal, walk to 7th Avenue and 42nd St. Take the Brooklyn-bound N train to 36th St. Wait there for the R train and take it to 53rd St. Walk from the station along 53rd against the one-way traffic along 53rd St to 7th Avenue. And there you are.

And from Freehold, NJ, there are either buses or trains into NYC. Just take one.

And here is the schedule for the New Jersey Transit Bus #139 from Freehold, NJ to the Port Authority Terminal in NYC. Easy walk to the N train.

Just to let you know that the R train also runs from Times Square, but it takes about 20 minutes longer. It's a lot faster to either take the N to 36th St or the Q to Dekalb Avenue and wait for an R train there to get to 53rd St, Brooklyn.

Just to clarify my post about the New Jersey Transit bus, it's not just the 139, it can be any of the buses: 130, 132, 136, 139, whatever is stopping at the closest Freehold bus stop nearest your starting point. Only you know which bus stop that is. But they all go into NYC.

And the 700 block of 53rd St, Brooklyn is near 7th Avenue, Brooklyn. Do not confuse this with any streets in Manhattan. It is a different area.

You should also make sure that it's 53rd st (in Sunset Park) that you want. There's also an E. 53rd st (in East Flatbush, I think).

The two streets are miles from one another.

I never understand why people don't just ask their relatives they are visiting what the closest and most convenient subway/train station is. If you are staying at a hotel in Freehold, call and ask.

Because many of the people asking these questions are not staying with relatives but at the home of "hosts", many of whom apparently know nothing about where they live. I don't know if that's a sign that it's a scam or that the host is a suburbanite who only drives from place to place and knows nothing about public transit.

Oh, yes the 700 block of E. 53rd is many miles from 700 53rd St. The former is near Utica Avenue and Foster Avenue near Tilden HS (for all you newer Brooklynites out there). To get there, you take the #3 or #4 subway train to Utica Avenue, and the B46 bus to Avenue D or Foster Avenue.

But as others have said, you should be 100% sure of your address, both in Freehold and in Brooklyn. And you do realize they are 40 miles apart, so most of us have to look up something on Google, just as you could have.
