Chiricahua National Monument closed due to fire precaution

Chiricahua National Monument has been closed as a safety precaution due to wildfires in eastern AZ. For more information call 520-824-3560. The smoke from the fire has gone into NM and into southern CO and is dense in areas close to the fire. If you have health concerns with smoke you might want to check out fire & smoke locations before traveling this summer. And please be careful with not only campfires and smoking but also pulling your car off onto dry grasses. Your hot engine can ignite those dry grasses. Thanks.

It is the Wallow Fire in central Eastern AZ on the NM border that is sending smoke into NM. The Horseshoe Bend Fire in the Chiracahua Mountains is in the far Southeast corner of AZ on the NM border. These fires are very distant from each other. We have seen no reports in AZ that the Wallow Fire smoke is reaching CO, but it is possible though quite far from the fire.

I happen to be paying attention to Colorado reports since we're heading there in two weeks, and yes, the Wallow fire smoke is affecting Colorado - see

newsfirst5.com/news/… and other similar reports.

My friends in Colorado have smoke from the Wallow fire, up to Colorado Springs! It is very smoky here in New Mexico as well.
