Subway safe at night?

So we are looking at an evening off broadway show...we are staying at the Newark Penn Station.

Will it be safe to take the subway back after an evening show? Or should consider the afternoon show instead?

Thanks!

How would you take the subway back? Sorry, It does not go to Newark. Maybe be more specific. I would avoid late hours where possible.

You'd be taking NJ Transit, not the subway, to Newark Penn Station.

There is no subway to Newark penn station, but there is to Penn Station NYC.

Maybe you have the two confused.

Many visitors don't realize that "subway" refers only to the NYC system. Rail systems between NYC and other regions are different. NJ transit runs the rail to Newark. The train should be perfectly safe for post-theater travel.

Talk about not doing any basic research - 'staying at the Newark Penn Station' is that a hotel?

If you're staying at the Gateway Hilton in Newark, it's directly connected to Newark Penn Station. If you're somewhere else in Newark then you need to think about transportation from the train station to your hotel.

NJ Transit is certainly the best way to go from the theater. You can easily walk down to NY Penn Station to get the train.

PATH trains also go to Newark Penn Station. The direct line is from the World Trade Center.

And the trains and the subway are perfectly safe at night. The trains will be full of folks doing the same thing you are doing

Newark, on the other hand, is generally NOT safe at night.

We are staying at the Hilton Newark Penn Station.

I understand that there are trains from Newark Penn station to NYC Penn Station--does make sense not officially the subway.

Good to hear it is safe; we were considering a matinee if so, but that would really cut into our sightseeing.

THANKS!!
