Broadway/Theatre attractions other than shows?

My daughter is musical theatre obsessed. Other than booking a show on Broadway is there anything else we can do?

Thinking a meal at Ellen’s and a trip to the theatre circle shop. Was wondering if there was any behind the scenes tours or museums? Thank you

There's a tour at Radio City Music Hall.

There are buildings where auditions and rehearsals are held. She should look at websites specifically for musical theater to see where auditions are and find out if they're open.

Also check out lectures at places like the 92nd St Y to see if there are any speakers of interest.

Go to an Off Broadway show (smaller theater, smaller cast, smaller band - but more intimate, more willing to take chances, often more edgy)

Go to a Broadway type music nightclub

www.54below.com

Monday nights at Birdland Jazz club is Broadway night

https://www.birdlandjazz.com/calendar/

and check out Jim Caruso's cast party especially (but really anything playing on Monday night there) and on other days anything in their new basement "Birdland Theater" which is more cabaret and musical related

When will you be here? Most Off Braodway comes and goes in the space of 4-8 weeks

That said, there are two very good off broadway shows in open runs

Desperate Measures - musical comedy, very tuneful, lots of fun

Avenue Q - possibly the most recommended off Broadway show in TA. Was on Broadway for ~3 years before moving to Off Broadway several years ago. Very funny, wickedly funny, in fact, and very honest about relationships and life.

Both are discounted

Desperate Measures is closing October 28th. I, too, recommend this delightful and witty musical.

Wicked does a backstage tour, I think it's called "Behind the Emerald Curtain".

You can also tour Carnegie Hall, but that might be a little old school for her.

Thank you. We’ll be there 20-25 December ... she is only 13 so nightclubs will be out.

I am going to book Dear EH, Waitress or Mean Girls not decided which yet but all 3 are headed to the UK next year anyway so would be nice to see something different too.

She thought there might be somewhere you could see some of the costumes?

We have seen Wicked this year otherwise that would have been great. I will see if you can book the tour without seeing the show.

Jerome Robbins exhibit at nypl. Lincoln center library. Take a dance class st steps. I think the museum of the city of ny had a theater exhibit. Schubert alley is a landmark. Joe Allen’s for a meal. Sardi’s for a meal and I think they also give tours.
