New York- Washington

Hello,

I am planning a two week trip to New York-Washington this summer. I was wondering what are some other cities in state of NY worth visiting alongside these two? I am looking for places with attractions that would take up to 3-4 days to spend time with.

Not in NY State, but Philadelphia and Baltimore have some interesting stuff (and are also along the same Amtrak train line that connects NYC and DC.) Boston is nice to but in the other direction.

Otherwise there are some charming smaller towns up the Hudson River.

Buffalo and Niagara Falls (the state park). Buffalo has a great art museum, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home and plenty of other great architecture. Both the historic district and waterfront area are great to explore. At Niagara Falls, the Maid of the Mist boat ride and Cave of the Winds are worth doing.

A region to consider is the Finger Lakes (Ithaca and Corning are among the small cities in the area) which is NY wine country. Beautiful state parks and great historic sights in addition to the lakes.

I like the options that rjr0810 gives but they aren't on the way from NYC to DC. I'd do Philadelphia & Baltimore as suggested in reply 1.

You can go to a Jersey Shore town for a few days and enjoy the sand and sun.

I like Long Beach Island.

Definitely would recommend DC and Philly for day trips.

3 days is definitely giving very short shrift to either NYC or DC - you would have time to spend a day or 2 in Philly - but not more than that by the time you take a day trip or so out of each of the others. From DC you should definitely visit Mount Vernon - Washington's Plantation - and there are a ton of trips out of NYC (up the Hudson - or other places nearby).

You could do Boston instead - but for that I would reco flying into Boston and out of DCor vice versa rather than a RT into.out of NYC.

Since the OP asked about other cities in NY:

" I was wondering what are some other cities in state of NY worth visiting alongside these two?"

I assumed that meant traveling north as there are no other cities in NYS between NYC and DC.

Are cities between NYC and DC the criteria, OP or is that what the other posters are assuming? If so, then Philadelphia is an excellent option.
