Booking a apartment via air bnb in manhattan is it safe ?Edited: 07 June 2018, 21:49
NO. It is largely illegal but ABNB does not police it, so as a result it is full of scams and illegal lodgings which get pulled at the last minute when the city decides to enforce the rules. It is a BAD IDEA.
No, it is not. Nearly all of them are illegal. See the forum's Top Questions section or you can google AirBnB nyc illegal
The majority of AirBnB style rentals are illegal in all five boroughs of NYC
They are illegal in any residential building with three or more units.
The source of an offer does not matter. No internet middleman vets listings for compliance with local laws.(The fine print protects them from most liability, except - maybe- a refund.) They prefer to spend their money on lawyers to make sure they are not fined, leaving potential guests vulnerable: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/03/technolog…
There are legal hotels that offer apartment style amenities if needed.
An emphatic NO for the reasons above.
If you will give us your exact dates of travel (room rates vary daily), budget in US$ (be sure to include 15% taxes on top of the base rate) & what kind of bedding configuration you need & the hotel experts will be happy to help you find a legal accommodation.
Legal vacation apartment rentals in NYC are few and far between. Like Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Reykjavik, and other cities that need more housing for their locals, New York has been forced to heavily regulate them.
If the building has three or more units, then the rental is illegal. You don't want to find yourself in a situation like this:
Not going to say you should or shouldn't not it is against the law with certain criteria s but you aren't going to get in trouble for it. It's like Jay walking or throwing gum on the street, nobody really cares. Only reason why NY in forced these laws was to protect the hotels who pay the politicans.
And these laws are not to protect the hotels, but rather to protect the Locals who need these apartments alot more than tourists do, Housing is scarce in NYC and AirBNB is causing a bigger scarcity of apartments and causing the rents to be raised an average of 5% or more and locals want to know who their neighbors are , even if they dont know them personally, they dont like strangers in apartment complexes

#7 - I don't know where you are from, but this city spends over a billion dollars a year (yes, with a B) on housing the homeless - quite a few of whom are working families.
